Massive Rolling Stones Box Set Announced [img:$uid]http://i52.tinypic.com/bgcho6.jpg[/img:$uid]
February 9, 2011
It seems that The Rolling Stones still remember when they used to put out a new “45” (slang for a single).
The band have announced plans for a new box set that will compile all 45 of their 45s that originally were released between 1971 and 2006. The whole thing will be available April 11 in the U.K. (international dates have yet to be revealed).
Each single will get its own CD (running from “Brown Sugar” through “Mixed Emotions” to “Biggest Mistake”), along with rare B-sides, live versions and remixes.
The result is 173 different tracks spread out over the set.
A whopping 80 of them are currently unavailable. The set comes housed in a pink box that bares the band’s famous lips logo and features a 32-page, hardback book with photos, essays and an interview with bassist Bill Wyman.
The set will also be available as a digital download. As a tie-in, a vinyl 7” pressing of “Brown Sugar” will be released for Record Store Day on April 16.

Why don't they just go all out, and put half of each song on its own cd to make it a 500 disc set? It amazes me that with 80 minutes of music to fit on one cd, the dying music business keeps hurting itself with crap like this.

It would be better to release a set of actual 45's. They've done this singles CD sets with The Beatles, Michael Jackson, & Duran Duran. I don't consider a CD a collectors item, espesically one with 2 songs on it. It's not a substitute for real records. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Sounds like a continuation of the ABKCO Singles box sets (not to be confused with the Singles Collection box set) which had the singles and EPs. I'm pretty sure they'll also be doing a box set of the Mono recordings, and I'm guessing the songs from "Sticky Fingers" are going to be on both. When they did the vinyl rerelease box set, they left off the live albums, so there's prob. a live box set in the works.
When I read "Massive Rolling Stones box set", I thought they were finally putting the unreleased stuff out because it's all under Universal now.
They did a good job last year with promoting "Exile". When Wyman and Taylor are part of the next Stones tour doing some of the albums from beginning to end, that'll be a very expensive show, and will have no problem selling tickets.

I did hear that Bill Wyman has been in talks of reuniting with them. Don't know about Mick Taylor though.

maybe you could get the small faces/rolling stones tour... that way all the members could just switch places. then you get rod stewart back in there. but steve marriot and plonky are not there anymore.

Why would he bother with that, when he's making the big money with his endless covers albums? You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

hee hee... small faces do the american songbook, ladies and gentlemen.

Rod was filthy rich pre-standards albums.

I didn't say he was poor, just that he's making money doing what he's doing now. There's at least 6 or 7 American Songbook albums in a row. It must be selling for Rod to continue to record them. Those first 27 seconds are lonely. I remember seeing this as a sixth grader and thinking the outfit was not too cool.

hopefully they eliminate the last 20-25 years of music and albums on this box set. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

You must not have read the article. It gives the years "1971 - 2006" and it's only singles, not albums. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

All their post-1970 shit's on it.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Its so hit and miss during that time period, i mean ok with the 70's but their 80's albums especially later are shit, dreadful, i mean i can maybe salvage 1 or 2 cuts from each at best, and their 90's work is not much better at all, that Vodoo Lounge album is one of the worst, a Bigger Bang? was that the title, i dont remember with them anymore, had some ok cuts, but i would have to say, people dog Elton and McCartney for 80's and 90's work, shit at least they have had some great albums in there, the stones had ZERO.
