me too. that album is so incredibly boring. sometimes i will play it when i'm doing stuff around the house, just to see if i missed something on the other listens. and after a while i will walk by the stereo and see the display and i always, always, always go
"oh god, we're only on track 6 ?!?!? wtf, it seems like it's been playing for 7 hours already"
now, "funeral", that's always over way too soon, i could listen to that album on repeat for the entire weekend and not get bored or sick.

I thought they coulda had one of them chicks sing Lovergirl or Square Biz in memory of Lady T-just a pic wasn't enough | |

I know I'm repeating myself but not just a pic...a pic out of three sharing the screen. It was downright trifflin' to not acknowledge her properly. | |

I hadn't given my full review on the Grammys but I'll try now:
The Aretha tribute was cool. I think Florence Welch could've done something like "Baby I Love You". Christina should've been singing "Think". Jennifer was good. Yolanda was good. I didn't catch much of Martina's version of "Angel". And Aretha is a trooper, continue to get well Ree!
Lady Gaga has become predictable. The cocoon was calculated, so was the performance and what she came out of. So it didn't hold my interest as her MTV '09 performance or her AMA '09 performance did when I didn't know what the hell she was going to do.
Miranda Lambert was OK. Least she can sing and she ain't singing about no teenage tripe like Taylor Swift. It was actually a country song so I dug it.
Muse did a good job but their performance was too fucking long. Lenny looking like a rock and roll Brian Fellows without the hat. Still love ya though Lenny.
The B.o.B./Bruno/Janelle performances were TOP NOTCH. To be honest, that was the most exciting TV performance I've seen in years from all three and Janelle brought her stage attitude to the Grammys. Definitely got people jumping out of their seats.
Lady Gaga's acceptance speech where she thanked Whitney has only added fuel to the fire to the media's attacks on her with them trying to kiss Madonna's ass.
Justin & Usher... *sigh* that was the worst performance of the night...by far. I didn't particularly cared for it and waited for it to be over but I did see that Usher was mostly the performer of that exchange. He didn't even let Bieber perform that much. If that didn't tell me nothing about how Usher really THINKS of him as a performer on his own, I don't know what is. I still don't know why Jaden Smith was there but whatever, still on that Karate Kid schtick.
The bluegrass medley with Mumford & Sons, the Avett Brothers and Dylan was good. I didn't mind Dylan's rough on chalkboard voice. He hasn't sung like he did in decades prior so he's been singing like that for a while. I still at dude who was on his keyboard.
Lady Antebellum - I had no idea they did a "Teddy tribute", I kinda looked at the performance, they were OK I guess.
Jamie Foxx looked 50 years old
Cee-Lo and Gwyneth and the Muppets' performance was the second stand-out performance of the night after B.o.B./Bruno/Janelle. Great that Mr. Green brought back out the Elton John look from that Muppets Show episode where he performed "Crocodile Rock" and that the performance was actually a tribute to Elton AND the Muppets themselves. Love the Supremes-esque Muppets in the background too.
Katy Perry - Next.
Norah/John/Keith - It was a decent tribute to Dolly but I rather Dolly come out and do it herself.
- my reaction when Esperanza Spaulding got the BNA Grammy instead of Bieber.
Eminem/Adam Levine/Rihanna/Dr. Dre/Skylar Grey - I actually liked it though I don't like none of the songs performed but Eminem did a good job and it was good to see Dr. Dre again.
Mick Jagger (with Raphael Saadiq) - this was actually my favorite performance of the night or at least a tie with Janelle and 'em. Mick wasn't trying to imitate Solomon (why should he?). He was just being Mick and that's a great thing. Mick's a legend and he proved why.
Barbra Streisand - it was good. Nice to see Kris Kristofferson introduce her. A mini "A Star is Born" reunion.
Rihanna/Drake - I turned the channel.
Arcade Fire - I initially gave their performance a bad rating and was like "what the hell?" But they actually did a great performance even if the song's like "eh". Didn't catch their second performance though.
---- Overall I'll say it was actually OK but I definitely think they should've had a Teena Marie tribute. But I guess they couldn't because Aretha is more of a Grammy darling than Teena. And that's not a bad thing. 18 Grammys is a great accomplishment. [Edited 2/14/11 22:22pm] [Edited 2/14/11 22:22pm] [Edited 2/14/11 22:23pm] | |

is it just me or did JB seem shocked that he didn't win "Best New Artist" award? the good life is one inspired by love and guided by knowledge ~ Bertrand Russel | |

So Aretha gets a tribute because she's sick (or something) but Teena doesn't get one and she's dead? How insulting to Teena. "Keep in mind that I'm an artist...and I'm sensitive about my shit."--E. Badu | |

It seems that seems a key part of the first sentence is missing; please clarify.
I realize the Grammys are industry awards, I was simply disappointed that two artists that for my released two of the better albums of the year weren't recognized. The recognition of Spalding and Arcade Fire, among others, indicates that their peers were paying attention, but people inevitably get left out. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

These kinds of awards are always kind of retroactive. That's why Steely Dan won for Two Against Nature and beat Eminem, who will likely be recognized later on for an album that won't be half the album The MM Album was. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Ouch! So you didn't care for the Mumford and Sons performance? I thought it was the best of the night. The Avett Brothers are good too, but I didn't care much for the rendition of their song last night. I can't believe they put Bob Dylan's ass in there. That MFer can't carry a tune in a bucket with a lid on it. Whoever told that guy he could sing ought to have their ass kicked. | |

To be honest, Teddy should've gotten a better tribute too. I blame the current president of the Grammys for that. [Edited 2/15/11 11:50am] | |

They were ok (they were the first ones right?) The whole thing was a bit too Squeeeeel like a pig for me. | |

It reminded you of Deliverance? I admit the Avett Brothers (I think) had that element definitely (or was it Mumford & Sons?) Not sure. | |

Teddy needs to haunt some Lady Antebellum ass. Boo, bitches!
I bet that tribute had him rollin in his grave. Rollin, get it??? :rimshot: | |

Yes, they were the first ones. The squeal like a pig reference is funny....I've always associated that phrase with Southern US and/or redneck (and yes, I am from the South; whether I'm a redneck is up for debate ), but Mumford and Sons are from London. | |

Rednecks live all over the world. It's not a totally Southern U.S. thing. | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I'm not saying Mumford are rednecks either tho. [Edited 2/15/11 13:42pm] | |

Yeah I don't think Mumford are rednecks either. | |

I think Aretha's impact on music is waayy more greater than Teena's. Aretha has influenced every modern day female singer (including Teena). She is the last of a dying breed. Mavis is apart of that same category. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-
