"Freedom" - Wham! / "Freedom '90" - George Michael

Two songs that share a name, a writer, and not much else. To my ears, they're both slices of pure pop perfection. Both singles failed to follow their predecessors to the top of the charts here in America ("Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" and "Everything She Wants" for the Wham! song, "Praying for Time" for the George solo song). Still, in a lot of ways these two are more indicative of the acts' overall vibe (if not their sound). "Freedom" is just as joyous and infectious as "Go-Go" but less gimmicky while most (if not all) of George's post-Faith solo career has been about breaking free from his former image.

And don't even ask me to choose between them, because I'm keeping both and you can't stop me. hmph!

The latter "Freedom" became an iconic moment for him, both the music video and the actual song.

I love the hell out of both of those songs too, I couldn't choose between them either.

freedom '90 for sure... this was a testament to him not wanting to be a 'sex symbol'. he opted for the 'i wanna be a real artist' route. i love that he burned the relics of the past in the video. and he chose to place models instead of himself. pretty brilliant move. Both are amazing pieces of music, I remember loving Freedom so much as a little kid, and discovered Freedom 90' a few years after it came out.
