If you listen to Soul Sacrifice,Jingo,Black Magic Woman, you hear

a very distinctive sound Santana had

while playing Gibson SG guitar.

After he switched to his current guitar

in my opinion he lost his sound,

he started sounding more processed, more commercial.

Eric Clapton played some kick ass Gibson guitar during his time with Cream,Blind Faith,Derec and the Dominos.

After he changed guitar his sound and playing were never the same in a bad way.

Is it something about Gibson or what?

I forgot both Santana and Clapton played Gibson guitars back in the 60's. For years I've always thought of Santana with Paul Reed Smith guitars and Clapton with the Fender Strat. They each even have their own signature models of PRS and Fender guitars.

I don't think them going "commercial" has to do with their guitars as much as it does that their songwriting and production styles have changed since their earlier days. I remember that Santana's "Supernatural" album was designed to be commercial on purpose.
