George Michael - Kissing a Fool
"But remember this Every other kiss That you ever give Long as we both live If you need a hand Of another man One you really can surrender with I will wait for you Like I always do There's something there That can't compare With any other..."
All the lyrics in this song is great but THIS really did it for me.

It was interesting that this became a big hit in the US as it was jazzy. But it didn't get played much on the local radio stations where I live. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

It appealed to the AC market, that's why. I love the song for the fact that it was jazzy and therefore different from what George had put out before that time.

thanks Timmy, this ballad ALWAYS touches me
"People,
proof that in the late-80s it was still possible to write a good ballad different than the typical & cheesy power-ballad

Exactly. And you're welcome.

But there were songs that were hits on the AC chart, that weren't on the regular top 40. I used to be interested in the Billboard charts then. I even occasionally looked at the Cash Box charts, which usually were different. Well then you have to think of George's huge popularity here in the U.S. That's how much loved he was that they would even promote it to that point and the fact it did well was testament to his powers then.

Yeah, this is from a great album. One thing about this song I like is that it has aged well.

Classic tune from Georgie. Always loved it. That album deserved the praise it got back then. It was an exceptional record. I'll always have love for George, even if he doesn't make another record.

What are you talking about?

yeah this was after I Want Your Sex, Hard Day, Father Figure, Faith...not to mention Wham's hits
George could have released anything at that point. He was golden (and I am not just talking about his highlights). My Legacy

It's like between 1984 and 1989 George could do no wrong. Hell he was seven years deep into his career when MTV gave him the Vanguard Award. That's how much of an impact he had on the public. [Edited 2/7/11 17:36pm]

GM is a living legend - to me, anyway.
So many really good songs, such a gorgeous voice.
I don't think he gets anywhere near the praise and attention that he should. "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

He sure don't get enough praise. I agree with him being a legend too.

"Kissing a Fool" is great, but it's no "Cowboys and Angels." "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Can we just accept they're both great songs and move on?

Well of course they're both great songs. But "Cowboys and Angels"... hell, I think I'll put it on right now. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis
