That's more of a funk tune, not a ballad or slow jam. Better choices for JT would be:
Time After Time
I Believe In You (You Believe In Me)
Stop Doggin' Me Around
Just Because
Hello Sundown
If You're Looking For A Fool
This Masquerade
Play Something Pretty
Your Love Is Rated X
Try Me Tonight
If She Stops Asking
I Worry About You
yeah but i like Disco Lady the best. If I can make love to it, then it's a slow jam.
I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT! RIP Dick Clark, Whitney Houston, Don Cornelius, Heavy D, and Donna Summer.
I caught that as well, Maxwell has two songs in the top ten. That speaks well to how good R.Kelly and Max write songs in the present time that they would rank as high as they did. This is a list made for the mature over 36 crowd, I don't have a problem with it.
R. Kelly wrote 'Fortunate'.
But this list is all types of wrong Most of these songs aren't even slow jams.
I'm not sure that's a good criteria, as some do it to dance music or even heavy metal.
You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

When I think of a 'slow jam' song, adult contemporary songs don't usually pop into my head even though a slow jam can also be classified as adult contemporary. Example, I don't think that anyone really considers Jewel's 'Who Will Save Your Soul' to be a slow jam or r&b. Usually, when someone classifies something as a 'slow jam' it's a sub-genre of r&b, rather than being classified as a 'slow jam' simply because it's slow or a ballad.
Human Nature is R&B. When it was out, it was on the R&B charts.
It charted on the Adult Contemporary charts, r&b, and Top 100 though. Also, I do understand that it is r&b, this I agree with, but that still doesn't mean that it's a 'slow jam.' Like Janet Jackson's 'Come Back To Me' is definitely a slow jam. So is a lot of stuff from Anita Baker or Prince's 'Adore.'
I was just under the impression that slow jams are usually heavy on the romantic content in terms of subject matter. MJ's I Just Can't Stop Loving You would be a better example of a 'slow jam.' Human Nature is not even a love song. I mean...could the O'Jays "Brandy" be considered a 'slow jam'? It just doesn't seem right.

nah...
you make love to slow jams
you have sex to dance music
you fuck to heavy metal

Well, a lot of people don't realize it's about a dog.

you got some good tast in music, micky. 'blacks and blues' is one of the greatest albums of all times. to me, blue note is the greatest label of all times. and the 'mizell brothers' period is phenomenal. i won't mention their work with michael, hee hee...
Where is EWF - I will write a song of love...that's just the most beautifull slow jam there is no? Also India Arie is missing, i feel she is highly underrated...:-s.
LOL. Why would that be a mistake? The focus here is on the songs, which includes the singer's voice and McDonald has a soulful voice. Music has no color unless you look at it as if it does. After all, this is not a list of The 100 Greatest Slow Jams By Black Artists. At least, that's not the title of the list. Michael McDonald is not the only white artist on this list.
I'm a little suprised to see one of my favorite Maxwell cuts so high on the list. "Fortunate" is number three! Very cool. We could debate the order but this is a better list than many of the "best of" R&B lists I usually see.
Maxwell is rated too high and Maxwell has more deserving material than the two songs listed.
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Slow jams don't have to be love songs and yes, 'Brandy' by the O'Jays is a slow jam.
'I Hate You' is a slow jam . . . .
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

That's why I loved it - because it was about a dog.
And the vocal delivery is so emotional, you can skip the fact that he's singing about a dog.
Same case with Michael Jackson's 'Ben.' You want that friendship with the rat to work out . . . .
Ben was written for Donny Osmond. He wasn't available, so it was given to Mike to sing. I like Wildfire (Michael Martin Murphey) which is about a horse.

Human Nature is R&B. When it was out, it was on the R&B charts. Human Nature is considered a ballad-tempo song. It really falls on the line but its there.
I understand the point you are trying to make but I also know that songs like Michael McDonald's "I Keep Forgetting" also fall under the heading of ballad because when you have to choose what to mix it with in a playlist, it HAS to go with the slower songs arther than with the fast songs. Such is also the case with Human Nature.
They are midtempo songs. The type of songs that are too slow for the dancefloor and too fast for the bedroom. The type of songs that I consider as serving no purpose whatsoever. I like those two songs but when everything on the radio becomes midtempo (like it is today) then I have a problem with it because I absolutely live to shake ass on the dancefloor with someone and then take that person home later to the bedroom to get the dick. I ain't got no time for music that's for "sitting, talking, having a cup of coffee with someone, and then going home dickless". That type of music serves no purpose.
In this list, Aretha gets d-i-s-r-e-s-p-e-c-t-e-d:
And I agree about "Gloria", should've been there too.
Plus, "Distant Lover" would've been number-one on my list not Lutha. Hell Lutha's version of "If Only For One Night" is more of a slow jam than "A House Is Not a Home" to me.
