Uhh, isn't this kinda like crying over Wham, Simply Red, or Tears for Fears (to a less extent) breaking up? Or whatever faux band Billy Corgan is leading. lol

Umm, no. In fact, it doesn't resemble any of that in the slightest. confused

How so? And I'm not being snarky, I really don't know much about them but I recall reading an article where they talked about how she wasn't a very good drummer but the guy liked that cause it challenged him. The impression I got from the article was that he pretty much carried the bulk of the weight for the band.

Sales of albums from the White Stripes have skyrocketed since the band announced their official split earlier this week.

According to Amazon, the 2010 live album and documentary Under Great White Northern Lights have seen an increase of 2,644 percent on the site, while two other albums, White Blood Cells and Elephant, are Top 10 sellers.

Jack seems to have a hefty amount of songs ready to go. He owns an indie label (Third Man Records), retains ownership of the WS' master recordings, and he did assure fans that Third Man woud issue previously unheard material. A "best of" would be cool, too.

Wow not only is he a talented musician, he seems to be an astute businessman as well. I had no idea he owned the master recordings of his White Stripes catalog.

Sorry to hear that. They were probably my favorite band of the last decade. Elephant is such an amazing record, and Jack White is a genius.

There have been reports and interviews that Meg has a horrific case of stage fright. Maybe the thought of going out on tour again was just too much for her. She's extremely shy and rarely speaks in public.

That "sex tape" probably didn't help things either.

Either way, I'm still a huge Jack White fan. I'll continue to my ear out for anything he does. Be it with the Raconteurs, The Dead Weather, or as a Producer.

Maybe he'll finally put out a Solo Record.

yeahthat

The man is only one of the few real creative musicians around for me and has been for the last decade. Its ashame theyve split but Jack White will continue as he has done. The guy is a f'ing genius.

And I am DEFINITELY in that camp as well. Don't get them or The National. I find very little (if anything) appealing about either of them.

Really? Anybody here thinks White Stripes were better than Arcade Fire?

Alrighty then.

I'm not sure what your point is here.

Whatever project Jack goes forward with on his own (if he even does, he may just continue to work as a producer and as part of one of his other bands), it will be different from the White Stripes. You could say the examples you gave all sound the same before and after the dead weight were cast off. With the exception perhaps of Wham!--George Michael solo doesn't sound much like the more frothy Wham! to me.

The criticism of Wham's music spooked George because he was categorized as a bubblegum pop act (when his music with Wham hardly reflected that, you can't do a song like "Young Guns (Go for It)", "Wham Rap" and "Everything She Wants" and be bubblegum, I think that "Wake Me Up" song really fucked with his head and that's why he went left).

That said, Jack White will NEVER have to worry about that. He can do any type of album and still go back to the WS sound on his own albums if he wanted to.

I think "Anybody" was supposed to be "Everybody." That's what I eventually decided.

I Was always mixed on WHAM! i think Wake Me Up is really why people think the band is cheesy.

I mean Careless Whisper is a classic, Wham Rap is kind of cheesy but very funky lol

But the guy's had songs like a different corner and Freedom so they weren't as bubblegum y as i think or others think i guess. Wake me up is a song that is seen as pure 80's cheese lol even i don't dig it as much as there other work

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

The new issue of NME is a special tribute issue to The White Stripes.
