Can't really make a comment till I hear the song. Some of the greatest songs of all time have completely random or nonsensical lyrics (Smells Like Teen Spirit anyone? Come Together, too?) so I don't really see any point in criticizing the lyrics.

I really don't care for these lyrics and that is the nicest way I can put it.

Still a fan, but these lyrics are reaching Prince's level of offensiveness.

Gag's social commentary contastred with this:

Granma came to see
Something she could not believe
How could her girl be
So naive
Tar baby, tar baby told
The secret she conceived

That big old smile of yours
Could turn the wind into a song
How could I have doubted
Honey it's with me you belong

Tar baby, tar baby
I love you so

Like a brand new blade
You cut into my life
Cut through two decades
Like a hot coal on ice

Tar baby, my tar baby
It maybe was meant to be
When I look at you
I can't believe my eyes

And with your magic
I think you just might charm the birds out of the sky

Tar baby, tar baby, tar baby
Came good out of grief

A golden thread inside of the web
That I got caught in
Oh, it's a lover's revenge, but out of the pain
Come the best things you see

You cut into my life You cut into my life (baby baby baby baby don't you know that) You cut into my life (I love you) You cut into my life

La la la la la ooh
You can turn the wind into a song
La la la la la baby baby baby
It's with me you belong

I stand by my statement that Sade Adu is our generation's most important poet.

Name someone else who can paint an indelible image within your mind with the written word? I'm not trying to be snarky but all you've been able to do is prove that you can disagree. Well, back your sh*t up sans emoticans an have an adult conversation and try to persuade me to agree with you.

And regarding the length an artist takes to release their work, well, I'd rather wait a decade then have to endure dreck like the above lyrics by Gaga.

She didn't paint anything in my mind. It's all about preferences and I have no desire to persuade you with my opinion. IMO, Sade isn't the "greatest poet/important of our time". That's just ridiculous.

You'd wait 10 years for a mediocre album such as Solider of Love? Good for you.

1) Did I say all time? You need to slow your roll and tone down the hyperboly if your gonna engage me in discussion..

and

2) I am only addressing "lyric" in this discussion and *not* the entire work that makes up an album.

comfort Tis okay...let the passion go and enjoy the conversation amongst one human to another. Our opinions and our differences are not that important.

Well, the lyric and the album is basically one and the same. shrug

You do realize a lyricist and a composer do two totally different things, right?

Probably the two most popular and respected examples I can give you:

West Side Story is an American musical with a script by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and choreography by Jerome Robbins.

Bernstein wrote and arranged the music while Sondheim wrote the lyrics.

and

Elton John and Berne Taupin, John arranges while Taupin writes the lyrics.

In Sade's case, she writes the lyrics while the "guys" write and arrange the music.

Cha get?

You're doing way too much now. Ffs, I know that a lyricist and composer are different. I was responding to: I am only addressing "lyric" in this discussion and *not* the entire work that makes up an album. I'm saying that the lyrics you posted are no different from the other songs on the album.
