Glad to find another Hard Candy fan! There is no excuse for Beat Goes On not being released! It would have been an instant hit with Kanye there and that classic Madonna beat that reminded me of her early years and why we all started loving her.

I agree about "Beat Goes On" also. It's a great song and would have been a club banger. Any song that samples The Whispers "And The Beat Goes On" should be a hit.

I love 'Hard Candy' lol I think "Miles Away" is one of the greatest songs she's ever done.I also love "Heartbeat","She's Not Me","Beat Goes On" and "Dance 2Night".It's a solid album until the last few tracks, when it loses steam and gets boring. It's probably the most commercial,radio-friendly album she's ever done.Under different circumstances,it might have had several big hits, but she was preparing to leave Warners so the album didn't really get the full promotional attention it deserved.

I'd say the stats speak for themselves. Who else has been *as* consistant for *as* long, and is cited by both Billboard and Guinness as the Most Successful Female Recording Artist of All Time, and is ranked the third most wealthiest female celebrity overall? Naysayers can try, but they won't refute it. I think by as early as 1986, she was arguably the most famous female celebrity in the world, and has been ever since. Madonna is the reigning Queen of Pop, and has been for most of her career.

I don't agree that she's a nostalgia act since 2005, more like a veteran artist (like U2, Stones, etc) who releases competent new albums (but not groundbreaking ) and tours the globe every 3 or 4 years, making truckloads of money in the process. Right now, I think that she's one of the five most successful live acts:

Madonna

The Rolling Stones

U2

Springsteen

AC/DC (eek question)

I do agree though, that Hard Candy was a misfire which arrived 3 years late and made her look desperate. Ironically, I believe that she should have released Hard Candy in 2005, and Confessions in 2008, which has a more traditional dance sound, "reasonably" similar to GaGa's sound...

As some of you have said, her 80s work (+ Vogue) has stood the test of time, and the 90s, despite the early american "flop" of Erotica (which was well received by the critics and sold very well in Europe, anyway), still gave us Rain, Deeper and Deeper, Secret, Take a Bow and perhaps the best album of the late '90s, Ray of Light. And Music was probably her last GREAT album. I particularly enjoy that album, it's a mix of european electronic music with some ironic touches of the female singer/songwriter genre of the late '90s. I think Music is her last album with sense of humor. In the '00s she has tried too hard. American Life aimed for "greatness", but it was sad, repetitive and underdeveloped; Confessions was a good effort (but it showed that the only thing that Madonna had by 2005 was her craft for good dance/pop) and Hard Candy..., wow, neutral I hope she recovers with her next album.

Anyway, I won't be surprised if she quits touring in the next few years...she IS getting old...

This how I'd rate Madonna's albums

A+

1. Like a Prayer

2. Ray of Light

3. Madonna

B+

4. Music

5. True Blue

6. Confessions

7. Bedtime Stories

B

8. Erotica

B-

9. Like a Virgin

C+

10. American Life

D

11. Hard Candy

The Immaculate Collection

Something To Remember

Evita

GHV2

Remixed And Revisited

Hmmm.....there's others too I think. (thinking of others that aren't on any album)

I will always stan for Madge. Period. Been a fan since I was a little kid (same as Prince and MJ) and she's just always put out material that provoked me to feel strongly (either liking it or not). She has never left me sort of scratching my head like, "Is that it?" (Like Prince does and has for the last 15 yrs.) I don't care much for Hard Candy or American Life, but I can gladly listen to both cuz they are more interesting and less pandering than recent efforts by artists of her generation (Discipline is awesome but Janet needs to zip her pussy up for a few years and maybe learn some home training).

Who's That Girl: I've never considered it as a proper Madonna album, for obvious reasons...

You Can Dance: nah, just a disposable album of weak remixes. The only remix I truly like is the long version of "Over and Over". C

I'm Breathless: oh, I forgot about this one. C+ I still think that the songs only work with the movie (and Vogue is truly out of place). Forget the soundtrack, buy the movie...

The Immaculate Collection: compilation, I can't rate it. Vogue= masterpiece; Rescue Me= good enough...

Something To Remember: can't rate it cuz it's also a compilation, but the only new song that I loved is You'll See. The cover of I Want You is dreadful and One More Chance is filler...

Evita: hmmm... C+ I didn't like the movie, and I don't like the soundtrack. I respect what she was trying to do here, but I'm not interested in this "latin-adult/contemporary" sound...

GHV2: compilation...

Remixed And Revisited: not a proper album

Celebration: compilation...

lol, The only song on I'm Breathless that even made the movie was "Sooner or Later", iirc.

Madonna needs to put together a CD box-set of ALL of her unreleased songs and songs that are not on any of her albums so we can have it all in one place! Also remixes, etc.

We also need The Virgin Tour, Blond Ambition, Reinvention tours all on DVD.

And a proper music video-collection with ALL of them on there.

Too many things that she needs to release...

I am not a huge Madonna fan, but I don't mind her. Her longevity is due more to business savvy than great musical talent.

Record buyers couldn't care less about an artists business savvy. And while, yes, business savvy is important; at the end of the day, if she wasn't producing music that people wanted to hear, she wouldn't have lasted.
