I like Johnnie Taylor's version of "This Bitter Earth" over Dinah Washington's original version, although BOTH are wonderful, but very different in production.

In the discussion of Beatles covers,

Stevie Wonder did a hell of a great job with We Can Work It Out

http://www.youtube.com/wa...B24z00ajU4

For Once In My Life was a cover also (Jean Dushon), and Stevie owned that one

An underrated cover was Barry White's version of Billy Joel's Just The Way You Are

http://www.youtube.com/wa...6eR9eQt5PE

A few other covers I enjoy

Mary Jane Girls - Walk Like A Man (Frankie Vali and the Four Seasons) Both are good

Joe Cocker - With A Little Help From My Friends (The Beatles)

Sid Vicious - My Way (Frank Sinatra)

Sybil - Don't Make Me Over (Dionne Warwick)

Anita Baker - Mystery (Manhattan Transfer)

A Taste of Honey - Sukiyaki (Kyu Sakamoto)

I don't even like the originals of these (I don't listen to Puffy & R. Kelly at all) and only listened to them once, but I like Al's versions. lol

Aretha didn't do the original. It was Otis Redding.

That's like choosing between your twin sons! That's my all-time favorite solo song by MJ, but I am also in love with the Marvin unedited mix. You can't make me choose! hmph!

It's So Hard To Say Goodbye by Boys II Men is a remake originally recorded by C.G Cameron for the Cooley High soundtrack. This song was virtually forgotten till Boys II Men did an acapella of it.

As we know this was a better version.

Johnnie Taylor - Taylored In Silk

Isn't that a great album?!? I first started listening to it when it was released back in the day on 8-track tape. Of course today I have it on CD, but it's still one of those albums you can play from start to finish - no skipping songs.

"Cheaper To Keep Her" used to be the hit! "We're Getting Careless With Our Love" and "Starting All Over Again" were another two favorites, and I can never forget that bassline to "I Believe In You". Yeah, this album would easily be in my Top 100 of all time.

I had included that song in a tribute-mix I had done for Teena Marie a few weeks back. It's so sad, but when I've lost someone special - it's one of my "go-to" songs. Everyone within 100 yards of my speakers KNEW I was missing Lady T that day, lol.
