What the holy fuck! eek eek

Damn str8 it is! Maybe not a million gazillion times better, but better nonetheless.

Nah, Ike & Tina's are tops for me:

I do like the Beatles' original though it has its charm about it so I can't totally shit on it.

Will probably get slated for this but much prefered Adeva's "respect" over Aretha's cool

Aretha didn't do the original. It was Otis Redding.

Yeah and on that note: Otis/Aretha > everyone else's rendition.

Oh... I forgot, the Rotary Connection did a good version of "Respect", so it's really Otis/Aretha/Rotary Connection > everyone else. lol

Agreed about Al and "How Can You Mend" though I love the Bee Gees' original.

I'm picking Marvin's version of "I Wanna Be Where You Are" over Michael's simply because Marvin and Leon made it into a smooth almost instrumental soundtrack and Marvin's vocals... oh my God. Also Willie Hutch did a damn fine cover of it! Hell he made me forget Michael's when I heard his version.

I also love Wanda Young's (The Marvelettes) version of "After All" over versions by the Miracles and the Supremes.

And Aretha's "I Say a Little Prayer" trounces on Dionne's. lol

I've got too many memories of some funky-ass dance parties to 'Rethas' version, so no one will ever top that one for me. Man! Wanna talk about some grown-folks jumpin' up, hittin' that dance floor and gettin' on down with their funky bad selves, lol. In fact, that song alone has united more co-workers at annual office Christmas parties than any other song I can think of right now, lol.

Im going to take it wayyy back and say I think the cover of 'Tainted Love' by Soft Cell was better than Gloria Jones original version from 1964.

I have to mention 'Dont Leave Me This Way' the original from Harold Marvin and the Blue Notes. The original was ok but when Thelma Houston recorded her version it didnt sound like a remake. Also was labeled as a Disco but it went all the way to #1.
