Carlos Santana's plans for the future

In the January 2003 issue of Guitarist magaine, there is an interview with Carlos Santana. He is asked what his next project will be...

"I want to do at least three new albums. There's one that needs to come out that I did with Wayne Shorter,Patrice Rushen and Alphonso Johnson back in 1988.Then I want to release one partly in Spanish and there's another one that I want to be done just as a quartet, which will be more spiritual stuff, but instrumental, almost like instrumental hymns. So,there's alot of stuff that I want to do,maybe as many as five or seven albums in all, much of which is already recorded and just needs to be mixed and finished off".

In the meantime,Carlos has just released the second single from 'Shaman'---the track "Nothing At All" with Musiq---and he has begun a world tour that will last until the fall.

I wish he would put that guitar away and retire. Santana was good in the 60's & 70's, right now he is just a lame-ass guest-musician on his own albums! Stop sellig out, Carlos!

Well, see, that's the thing. On these new projects that he announced, there won't be all the "popular" guest stars and such.I think he wants to go back to making music that isn't geared towards the pop chart. An instrumental CD of "spiritual music" sounds particularly interesting.

True. That's why I'm not gonna get excited until these CDs actually arrive in stores.Unfortunately for Carlos,he is signed to a record label (Arista) that only cares about making money, and I don't think they're gonna be too enthused about these decidely "non-commercial" projects.

I think this Might work.remember something if you are Profitable for a Major Company they tend to Allow certain things.it's a Business&if you earn your Keep then they will or Might allow some Creative Choices with certain projects.I still wished for that Santana,Quincy Jones,Michael Jackson&Prince project He was pitching a Year back though.

So,what do you guys think of the new Santana single "Nothing At All" featuring Musiq? I think it's one of the strongest tracks on the 'Shaman' CD and I predict it will be a big hit.I'm not the biggest Musiq fan,but he sounds great on this tune.

Creditable Enough to get over but nothing special to me.I saw them together on Jay Leno's TOnight Show a Week back&Musiq was stuck in a Stevie Wonder Image Warp 72-73 Circa but the Problem was Musiq couldn't ditch that Voice?Musiq must have a Video or something on People to be allowed all these Guest Appearences I just don't get it.Hell He ain't even a Good Hook Artist let alone worthy IMHO of doing Guest Spots on Santana,Prince,etc... Albums??? I don't get this at all.

It is rumored that Carlos originally wanted Stevie Wonder or Michael Jackson to sing the vocals on that song, but Clive Davis suggested Musiq.

Clive believes in Pushing what is happening out now.if Carlos wanted to get that MJ&Stevie Vibe than what about Donnell Jones?? that Cat blows Musiq away but who doesn't? typical Clive.I still say Musiq got a Video on somebody though.

All I know about Musiq is that one song on the "It Ain't Over" cd, and that song just totally sucks ass!
