"MR. EXCITEMENT" or "THE KING"? Which artist came first? Jackie Wilson or Elvis Presley? I've always loved Elvis and was far more exposed to his music, but I've always liked what little I'd heard of Jackie Wison and really wanted to explore his music. Well, I did and I was FLOORED, when he came off sounding like Elvis in some of his early work. Or do I have it wrong? Was Elvis influenced by Jackie? I know that everyone is influenced by someone, but Mr. Excitement had it going on! with the showmanship and all and Elvis wasn't slouching in the early days, either. I'm just curious.
I was really impressed by Jackie's catalogue and how versatile he was with his voice. Talk about underrated!!!! |

Clyde McPhatter.
Both Elvis and Jackie took the class of Clyde 101.
Another vocal legend they took a class from was Roy Brown (and Clyde also to a lesser degree). [Edited 1/19/11 19:37pm] |

True, but Clyde grommed Jackie as he succeeded him in the Dominoes
PRINCE: Always and Forever
MICHAEL JACKSON: Always and Forever

Well that technically made Clyde Jackie's teacher in that sense anyways. |
