The O2 named number one music venue

The O2 has been named the world's number one music venue.

The London venue sold a huge 1,737,654 tickets last year - more than any other concert hall in the world, including New York's Madison Square Garden, which it beat by over 50 per cent.

Huge artists such as Lady Gaga, The Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna, Eric Clapton and Jon Bon Jovi have been some of the venue's highlights since it opened in 2007.

The Venue was chosen as the venue for Micahel Jackson's 50 date comeback shows, which were due to start just days after the 'Thriller' singer tragically and unexpectedly passed away, but even this didn't stop the venue from rebooking other acts to fill the scheduling holes and remain the top venue in the world. Other residencies at The O2 include Prince's history making 21 night run in 2007 cool and a 12 night residency by Bon Jovi last year.lol

Gary Bongiovanni, editor-In-chief for Pollstar who released the figures said: "The O2 in London has once again proven to be the most popular concert venue in the world.

"The arena dwarfed the competition by selling more than 1.7 million tickets in 2010 to further cement its place as an essential stop for any major worldwide tour."

This year the O2 is set to go from strength to strength, with the BRIT Awards being held there, as well as its first ballet 'Romeo and Juliet', the live version of TV show 'Glee', a show based on superhero 'Batman'.

Musical highlights in 2011 include Blink 182, Iron Maiden, Katy Perry, Rihanna and Usher
