Is this for what someone likes personally for each decade or what they think is popular with mainstream listeners?

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

What type of music?

You need to be more specific here.

This is nothing more than "name the most popular songs"

You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

I got an idea people, since some lists don't please y'all.

Make a 50 song list that defined each decade, GO!

Don't worry, I'll wait.

Nobody seems to be putting glam in their 70s lists. And no, "Bohemian Rhapsody" doesn't count. rolleyes

What about "Walk on the Wild Side" or "Suffragette City".

I'm not from the UK, so I don't know anything about that (or punk either). lol I heard a lot of Bob Seger, Teddy Pendergrass, and Steely Dan though.

lol Lou Reed is American..ie Walk On The Wild Side. You don't dig Bowie, Mickey? The glam rock stuff did quite well on both sides of the Atlantic, so it wasn't just a UK thing. Alice Cooper was probably the biggest US glam guy methinks.

Overall I have to say your list(s) are very good. I like your selections.

A 60's and 70's list that does NOT Contain James Brown, Lil Richard, Kraftwerk, Devo, the Ohio Players, P-funk or EW&F cannot be taken seriously.

I'm from the southern US, and there was little if any glam rock played on the radio where I lived. You know the rednecks don't go for that. lol The US is a big place, and in some cases a type of music can be popular in one area and not another (ie. Tejano, Bluegrass, Zydeco, Latin Freestyle, Broadway showtunes, Miami Bass, Chopped & Screwed). I never heard of glam until the 1980s, when it was used to describe acts like Motley Crue & Cinderella. The 70's rock music in my neck of the woods was stuff like Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Eagles, 38 Special, Cheap Trick, Styx, Boston, Bob Seger, Yes, Rush, etc. and maybe some prog rock. As far as Davis Bowie goes, until the Let's Dance era, the only thing I heard from him were Fame, Young Americans, and some other song (which I can't think of the name right now) which were played on the R&B station. I've never actually seen what he looked like until 1983 or so. Really for the most part, the main music I heard as a kid was R&B/soul/funk and some blues & jazz. That's what my relatives played.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

That's why it's requested we make lists. lol

Then again, do we really need lists to define a decade. You can pick a MILLION songs from any decade that defined it! DUH! lol

Jesus Christ.
