What's your favorite album by The Jacksons (not the Jackson 5)?

I love all of them except 2300 Jackson Street.

Yeah. I ain´t also too crazy about Victory, but I also love Moving Violations that I have bought recently.

Other than the singles I'm not familiar with any of these albums but I did recently pick up a copy of The Jacksons-Original Album Classics which features all of them except for the live album and the non Michael album. If this thread is still kicking around I should be able to offer an informed opinion in about a week.

Triumph is my favorite. Then Destiny.

I think 2300 Jackson St. gets a bad rap. I don't think it's a masterpiece by any means, but it is their attempt at New Jack Swing. The album definitely reflects what was going on in music at the time.

Destiny has always been my absolute favorite not to mention the great original album design and pics. The Jacksons and Triumph are tied depending on day and time.

4) Goin' Places

5) Victory

The Jacksons.....the first album that I actually owned.

I'd like the live album a lot more if it was from one actual performance instead of compiled from several. In my mind, that spoils it a little for me.

I've a soft spot for 'Victory' too, Apart from my avatar, i dig 'Wait', 'One More Chance' and 'The Hurt' too, over time i loved all the brothers doing their thing, but yeah, i'd have loved to hear Michael's version of 'The Hurt'. I loved the era post 'Thriller', i got the gatefold vinyl, Picture discs for both the album and 'State Of Shock'.

I'm hoping there is vault stuff from The Jacksons lurking somewhere on the horizon.

I'm surprised to see 'Triumph' getting so much love.I think 'Destiny' is their masterpiece.

Triumph for me. Its as spectacular as Off The Wall to me.

But "Destiny" is great too. Not a bad song on either of those albums.

I've always been fond of "The Jacksons" and "Goin' Places" as well. I don't like them as much as Triumph and Destiny, but you can't go wrong with songs like "Eventhough You're Gone", "Show You The Way To Go", "Find Me A Girl", "Blues Away",etc.

Me too! I remember a time when Triumph was not so loved. It had good tracks but songs that were considered mediocre fillers. For many years I've seen/heard Destiny > Triumph from fans. Personally, when I first head it I was disappointed that it was not as strong but I grew to love it very much.

Triumph > Destiny > Jacksons > everything else

Triumph to me just stood out, the rhythms, the feeling of a team effort, etc. It was always between Triumph and Destiny.

I'd been more shocked if someone picked Victory or 2300 Jackson Street.

In my book, it is a split between Destiny and Triumph, but I have to give Destiny more of the edge. On that album, Michael was truly wearing his heart on his sleeve on the more slow-buring, reflective and mellow grooves. I've always looked at that album as Mike's true emancipation as well as a personal statement that seemed to be the enduring answer to the man Michael was going to become in the future. Lryically, it's probably their strongest and their tightest musically as well. Every song on that record hits me hard, even "Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)", "All Night Dancin'", and "Blame It On The Boogie".

Triumph proved to be the culmination of everything that they learned and a testament to how far they could push their limits artistically. By that time, you just couldn't deny their skills as performers, producers or musicians. Michael was still riding the Off The Wall train high and the rest of the gang hit em hard once again. Truly an essential record...

Their earlier Epic-era records (1976 self-titled and Goin' Places) were both great records that showed their maturity and growth as artists. All the songs on The Jacksons were solid in my book and I can play that album from start to finish just as much as the peak albums Destiny and Triumph. Gamble and Huff really had the ball running on that album and Michael even proved that he could write one hell of a cut with "Blues Away", which even today haunts me as it was about depression. Goin' Places had some great cuts too, just not as cohesive as their previous one.

The rest Victory and 2300 Jackson St. were decent, but nowhere as trailblazing as the others. But the split for my favorite Jacksons album will always be Destiny and Triumph.
