You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Mike's so cute in this one.

"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

biggrin CLASSIC PIC! One of the best I've seen in a long time...thanks for posting. Question: Besides Joe being in it (even though he started it all in the 1st place), is this the final group picture ever taken? Just wondering...never seen it before. But I figure it is, since it was obviously taken @ one of the final concerts.

Oh yeah, back on the topic. Triumph & Destiny: 2-Way Tie...even though I listen to Triumph more. Both are very close to pop/funk perfection...They both can battle with Thriller, easily. Triumph should've been & still should be BIGGER & WAY MORE WELL-KNOWN. It is just as good as Off The Wall. cool

Appreciate the info...That's what I meant, the last pic with all six bros. as The Jacksons, since Randy's not in the group anymore either. sad It's truly an ULTIMATE pic, unfortunately.

Yeah and Marlon, Jackie & Tito got their own careers to deal with, especially Tito. The Jacksons are OVER. The more the media (and the family themselves) realize it, the better. The Jacksons as a group ended in 1989.

Yeah, their issues are very unnecessary. My family's band auditioned for Motown a little over a year too late (1970)...They said, they were great, but they already had a Jackson 5. And this is what it's come to?

All they have to do to solve whatever money issues they have is put their egos aside & tour (and release one of those songs they were fighting about on the show). Jermaine or whoever else won't have these $ problems. Jermaine has solo HITS. Classics in some people's minds...no excuse. They can rework some of the group's hits so they won't have to strain so much trying to hit MJs notes... biggrin Fans will pay to see them. The Jacksons didn't have to end in 1989...2300 Jackson St. wasn't a total flop, it went gold, right? They weren't gonna come close to MJs solo success, but they still would've sold something. Wasn't good enough for 'em (at least not Jermaine anyway).

For some reason, I believe if Jermaine would've never came back in 1983, The Jacksons (Randy,Marlon,Tito,Jackie) would've actually continued making records after MJ left, throughout the late 80s & 90s. & I also think Michael would've been more open to recording/performing with them.

They became their own artists, something Motown never let them do. So when Jermaine came back, the game had changed. Destiny & Triumph...both creatively led sound-wise by Michael back to back (along with Randy & Jackie coming into their own as well). It was just an uncomfortable situation. MJ got fed up & left for good...That's my view of that phenomenon anyway.

Does anybody remember when Jermaine first went solo & performed on Soul Train (& the rest of the Jacksons (Randy included) backed him up). Don said to him, "So Michael kind of took your gig, huh?", referring to the fact Jermaine was the original lead singer before Mike came in... wink I believe that's when the petty beef started...

One problem is definitely ego. I remember during the reality show, the promoter showed them that concert hall and they were like "Nah this is too small, The Jacksons do stadiums"

No, the Jacksons DID stadiums.....in 1984 and I gotta admit The Victory Tour should've been an arena tour instead of a stadium tour. The way it seemed set up, it should've been in arenas look at the set list:

Wanna Be Startin' Somethin

Things I Do For You

Off The Wall

Human Nature

Heartbreak Hotel

She's Out Of My Life

Let's Get Serious

Dynamite (or You Like Me Don't You)

Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming

I Want You Back

The Love You Save

I'll Be There

Rock With You

Lovely One

Working Day And Night

Beat It

Billie Jean

Shake Your Body Down To The Ground

imagine that setlist with THIS stage

[img:$uid]http://legend-of-mwfc.la.coocan.jp/image/vic/stagium.jpg[/img:$uid]

it doesn't really match up

I dunno, as a person who was there, I thought it worked really well. It was the 80's, they were probably required by law to go for overkill lol

I mean, MichaelMania was in full swing, this tour was the first time people got to hear songs like "Beat It" and "Billie Jean" live. They HAD to use stadiums to hold all the people.

Yeah, some (if not ALL) of the Jacksons songs threw newbies for a loop, and it sucked that they didn't do anything from Victory, but it was still good. That xmas I asked for all the Jackson's albums. I got Destiny and the Jackson 5 picture disc that came with a glove lol

I'm surprised to see 'Triumph' getting so much love.I think 'Destiny' is their masterpiece.

Me too! eek I remember a time when Triumph was not so loved. It had good tracks but songs that were considered mediocre fillers. For many years I've seen/heard Destiny > Triumph from fans. Personally, when I first head it I was disappointed that it was not as strong but I grew to love it very much.

Me three, and I'm posting my comment now having not even read the rest of the thread. lol

Destiny is a MUCH better album than Triumph as the latter most certainly has too many fillers and crap. I believe the success of OTW helped propel the Triumph album. OTW was still selling like a mug in 1981. Just like the Victory tour was essentially the Thriller tour, so it was with the Triumph tour. They actually performed more songs from the OTW album than they did Triumph.

And for 1980, Triumph gets smoked by a lot of other R&B albums released the same year. lol

I won't lie, Triumph is on heavy rotation right now in my car, and Lovely One and TWFNO are 2 of my favorite songs EVER. But Destiny is perfect.

I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!
