Hence why I didn't wanna even give it a listen. I'm sorry, after hearing some tracks, I can't get fully behind the album. This wasn't made out of love and unity like Destiny and Triumph were. Who were they even trying to fool trying to put their own spin to the Thriller success (hell the video and sound of "Torture" ripped off "Beat It" and "Thriller"!). lol

I like torture but I agree with you , like I mention before it was a rush album and you can tell everyone wasn't into it.

Yeah it was like "let's get this over with I got a solo album to finish" (or some other obligations). It's strange because Jermaine had his solo project out at the same time as "Victory".

Destiny-Triumph

I can't pick one. But if my life depended on it, I'd choose Destiny, if only for Blame It On the Boogie, for me, the best song the Jacksons ever did, just as a good as anything on Off the Wall/Thriller...

My vote goes to Destiny as my most favorite. Triumph is a very close first-runner up.

I don't like the 'Victory' album. It seems like a project that Michael was dragged into.He seems detached from it.Notice that he recorded a duet with Mick Jagger when one of the brothers could have been used.He also worked with Freddie Mercury on a song for the album (which wasn't used).I get the feeling that he really didn't wanna record music with his brothers anymore.

For their part, the brothers were just trying to ride the coattails of Michael's extraordinary Thriller success.Notice that the chorus of "Body" is a rip-off of "Wanna Be Startin' Something".

I think it was originally gonna be a more collaborative effort then:

Thriller got bigger than expected

Jermaine rejoined the group

the tour got in the way

They started working on some of the songs as far back as 1982 and by May 1984, that's the best they could come up with? neutral

Mike was TIRED a dem boys! LOL! He'd been with them since the beginning and was ready to get out there and do his own thing solo but they kept begging him and begging him to record another Jacksons album. Victory is decent but you can tell something's missing. Michael's heart wasn't in it. Not to say that the other brothers were talentless but Michael's input on the Victory album is definitely missing when you compare it to their other albums.

THis my ish right here tho! Even without Mike I think this is the cutest song, it gives all the brothers a chance to shine (minus Marlon), they all look good and so BROTHERLY if you know what I mean, like they've got that brotherly chemistry and I'm kinda digging Jermaine's "Oh we're shooting a video today?" sweatpants and trench coat ensemble. cool (And yes I know this is from 2300 Jackson St)

Jermaine hadn't rejoined the group when work 1st began on Victory. He came halfway in. That's why he's not singing on some of the songs (nor wrote anything), not even on background. Torture was a duet with Jackie and Mike at first. When Jermaine signed on, he overdubbed his lead and Jackie's was taken off. But Jackie's ad libs are still on the 12" single version. Also Jermaine wasn't in the early photo shoots for the album. It was just the other 5 brothers. I think this was the original cover.

Eww, don't like this for the cover, lol. The Vicroty cover is good as it is. They look like Super Heroes! This pic looks like they're on the set of the Say Say Say video.

Something random: I remember back in '85 buying a Michael Jackson calendar that used some pics from this photoshoot. I remember there being a pic of him with the dog, and the football lol

I think the original Victory picture is sort of a theme like the Norman Rockwell like cover of Goin' Places.

Jermaine's solo album is better than 'Victory'.It contains "Tell Me I'm Not Dreamin",a wonderful duet with Michael that rivals any song on 'Victory'.Other tunes, like "Dynamite" and "Do What You Do",are also better than the Victory tracks.

Robert Palmer remade it.

The song was never released as a single, but it did get radio airplay. I'm don't think that the Solid Gold chart was official, but Casey Kasem's show used Billboard.

There is another song on Jermaine's album with Tito & Randy called Escape From The Planet Of The Ant Men.
