"Thug Life" (aka Dealz ) mentioned this tune on the Jackson Family Dynasty show. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I'd consider "she" and "nothin' (that compares to you)" newjack, but the other uptempo's (which were either The Jacksons with Atlanta Zane Giles, Jermaine Jackson or Michael Omartian producing) were more of the pop/funk sound of 1987/1988. Very agressive (or prominant) drum thwacking, but not newjack per see. I really like "Maria" (which has great spanish guitar and harmonica solo) and "play it up", but some of it sounded a little dated next to the real newjack of Al b sure!, Guy, Bobby Brown et all.
I love the album though LOL. Even the title track. Whilst Michael Omartian's production on "if you only believe" is lovely aswell.

Those albums were released in mid 88 and 2300 Jackson Street in mid 89. Plus, I don't think they were goin for a New Jack sound, if they were Riley aand Gene would have produced the majority beside LA and Face and Omartian. PRINCE: Always and Forever

True, but I just feel like, after Off The Wall,Michael didn't need his brothers anymore.I think there was alot of pressure for him to do those albums, but I think he was more interested in his solo career. He didn't even want to do the the 'Victory' album and tour but his mother convinced him to participate.Notice that he recorded "State Of Shock" with another artist (Mick Jagger) and not one of the brothers. Also,he didn't appear in the "Torture" and "Body" videos.I can tell that he wasn't interested in this project and rightfully so.

So you sayin' we didn't need "Triumph"
I rebuke you just for implying that
?uestlove posted his fantasy tracklisting if Jermaine had stayed with the group. He combined what he felt was the strongest tracks on Let's Get Serious and Triumph

If Jermaine remained in the group, would Randy have been made an official member? If not, then the songs he co-wrote might not have existed. Also, the brothers probably wouldn't have worked with Stevie, so the songs he did on Let's Get Serious wouldn't be there either. Exactly. I think fate had it in the cards that this was to happen. This part of the Jacksons story I don't want changed.

Yeah the period between 1976-1982 was the period where Michael and his brothers just hit a mighty blow (including Mike's Off The Wall and Thriller)...you couldn't mess with them on a professional and artistic level during that time. Check me out and add me on:

For some reason, Private Affair sounds like it could have been an outtake from one of Jermaine's Arista albums. Didn't he work with Michael Omartian on some of those albums? **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Yes he did. Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming, Perfect, I Think It's Love and several other songs had Michael Omartian involvement. Also, if Jermaine went to Epic with the others, he wouldn't have been working in A&R at Motown, so would have never discovered Switch and DeBarge. I wonder would that have affected the career of James Ingram, since his brother Phillip was in Switch. I still say that the Jacksons' albums on CBS doesn't compare to any of the Jackson 5 Motown albums.
I love some of the cuts on The Jacksons album, Going Places is a very underrated album. With the exception of Music's Taken Over, the songs on Going Places are very strong.
Triumph has some nice tunes on it also, but there's not a lot. Victory felt like it was just slapped together by the brothers, only 3 songs really stood out to me, Torture, Wait, and One More Chance. The rest of the album is garbage.
I never heard all of 2300 Jackson Street except for Nothin, 2300 Jackson St., and Art of Madness.
But overall, I think this album is the best Jackson effort...

I agree. The album has some weak spots, but a very enjoyable album overall. "Find Me A Girl" is my absolute fave on there! MJ's vocals are so smooth and soulful. I love it. "Eventhough You're Gone" is great as well. I listened to it a lot when MJ first passed, it made me sad but I smiled also listening to it. I think it's one of the Jacksons best. Let's not forget these gems from that particular album:
Gamble & Huff definitely created magic when they were working with the Jackson brothers. Michael's vocals and the brothers' harmonies were as smooth as butter. [Edited 1/7/11 22:15pm] Check me out and add me on:
