"Dance On" is interesting musically, but the melody and the lyrics are pretty weak. I don't think "We March" has ever gotten a free ride in the Prince community though.
"Baby Be Mine" is my favourite track from "Thriller". I can understand why someone would feel it's the weakest though. I seriously wish I could take "Girlfriend" off "Off The Wall" on the other hand.
There's some dross included on most classic albums from the 1960s and the 1970s. Many regard "Are You Experienced" as the best album by Jimi Hendrix, but it's the most uneven of them.

I agree with this. It's the weakest song on the album.Apollonia's co-lead vocal nearly ruins it

man, Speed Demon is like the biggest piece of shit that Michael & Quincy did in the 80s; it proved that Quincy had lost it and Michael needed new producers...pure late-80s hard-dance garbage/nonsense... a weak weak weak dull dull dull dance "jam?" (filler)
Tracks like Speed Demon or Just Good Friends would have never been included in Dangerous...

That Speed Demon beat is HOT! Michael's ad-libbing and the percussion and bass is off the chain. This remix alone is simply great...

Aw man, I loved Michael's version on "Girlfriend", better than Paul McCartney's original. But I have to agree with some of the previous posters: "Baby Be Mine" from Thriller and "Free" from 1999 are weak tracks. "Irresistible Bitch" should have been on the 1999 album in "Free''s" place. ~Using the Fat Albert emoticon 'cause no one else is... ~

A slightly better version of a crappy song is still a crappy song.

Oh, come on, at the very least "Love's in Need of Love Today" runs at least three minutes too long. It just repeats the same thing over and over again! I don't think it's a great song to start with but it would be much better at four minutes rather than seven.
I'm not opposed to longer songs, for example I wouldn't mind if "Isn't She Lovely" ran even longer because there's some great harmonica playing in it but you gotta give me something to keep me engaged. [Edited 1/12/11 16:11pm]

I agree,"Speed Demon" and "Just Good Friends" should have never made it past the demo stage. Those are weak songs that don't belong on the album.

The Beautiful Ones??? What's NOT to like about the Beautiful Ones? It's one of my favorite Ones!!!!!

It's a fairly pedestrian pop song, especially when you compare it to a lot of the other songs Prince was writing at that time. I don't think that makes it a bad song but I have never found it to be terribly interesting either.

No way. The lyrics are deep and the beat is perfection. The live, extended versions of IWD4U are kickass to say the least. "Get up off that grey line"

Why are so many people saying Baby Be Mine? That is a great song.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yeah, but we're not talkin' bout the live, extended versions! It's not that it's a bad song. It's just the weakest one on the album. Doesn't have the same kinda magic the others do (read: it doesn't have much of a personality of its own, rather it sounds like the segue intro to Baby I'm A Star).

Agreed. I kind of feel the same way about "U Got The Look" on Sign O' The Times. As a pop single it's great but it doesn't quite fit in on the album.
