Katy Perry & Other So Called Number 1 Artist's

My sister had me listen to her song today the firework track. And i listened like a minute before i couldn't listen anymore, her voice which i never thought was good, sounded like another processed computerized track. And she has 3 number 1's? I Don't think she's good at all IMO now i know some people maybe fans of her but....

People like her & Keha & Soulja Boy getting number 1's is insane. To me getting a number 1 single should be earned,Number 1's aren't be all end all or that essential mind you. But it seemed back in the day's when say Ray Charles, Aretha, Prince, MJ, Stevie Wonder, George Michael, Marvin Gaye, James Brown etc. that it was earned, that it really spoke to people, yes it was catchy to as well.

I used to think billboard hot 100 was a big accomplishment, but as the years go guy i think less and less of it lol

But being as i am 20, i am sure people who have been around since the 80's, 70's, 60's etc. Had to go through bad acts as well lol

Funny thing is most of the stuff that is number-one I'm not familiar with (besides Gaga) lol and those of this generation I am familiar with are nowhere near it lol But I guess it's a good thing nowadays if you're not on a pop singles chart when you look at what's on it lol

lol , And i'm hoping not to get people who like Perry or other pop artist's... i mean if you like them that's cool. I like artist's i know others hate lol

But since i'm still young and also live in Hollywood where radios are blaring every window, i hear these song's on a daily basis eek, and take a song like say Superstition, I Heard It through The Grape vine or Respect. Song's that where number 1 that are played quite a bit today but i never get tired of them.

After hearing California Girls & Tik Tok once i was ready to destroy my radio lol

People will find something good in artists. Some have said they dug Katy's latest stuff on here. But I feel you on the final comment. lol

Hit records have always worked the same way. Whatever record company pays the radio station/DJ the most money, gets the most plays. There's some exceptions, but most of the time it's payola, it has nothing to do with someone "earning" or "deserving" a hit.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Yeah music has gone down the toilet. I mean I can understand and I like (not to the point of buying mind you but still I can enjoy) the appeal of "California Gurls", "Teenage Dream" and "Tik Tok" but "Firework"? I just can't get its appeal at all, it sounds to me like a mid-90s Spice Girls outtake.

As for being a big thing being #1 on Billboard, well, there were several #1s in the 80s and the 90s that none remembers anymore but I guess there will be plenty more this decade... I suspect though that "Tik Tok" will be remembered lol

Its really like Prince said in 2004 and he wasnt by any means the first, others like Chuck D talked about the artists and shelf life and turnover rate etc...you arent really selling an artist so to speak, funny thing is though, someone like Katy Perry might be one of the few survivors of the current stars. But for the most part even someone like Gaga who has talent in singing and songwriting somewhat, she still has to rely on other things to get her by, there is very little substance today at all, and PLEASE no one chime in with "u have to look for it" can we retire that broken record already, i dont care what time you were in you always had to look for music and artists, its just at one point it all stopped being put in front of you to chose from, now, im sorry but there is just as much shit on the net as there is with a freaking label.

Yeah some "independent" stuff is not as good unless someone is really truly inspired.

yeah people sometimes forget that most "indie" artists arent even indie, if u are on a small label but that small label is distributed by Universal, guess what, u are on a major label. If you truly want to be indie you have to either be with a label that distributes itself or put things out yourself with no major label hands in the project, so alot of what peeps thing is INDIE isnt really.

I went through a period where all I listened to was late 70’s, 80’s and 90’s music this was last year actually. Now I’m listening to what’s out now and old school. There’s some decent new stuff but it depends on what YOU considered decent. Just listen to what you like and leave it at that it’s a tired subject.

There could be a few but I don't see many of them filling the caliber though I know how biased they are.

there's always a lot of bullshit that hits #1, or at least very near the top of the charts. it isn't a new phenomenon. it's just the stuff you live through that you notice.

i can't really say anything bad about katy perry. no i'm not familar with her music really but that sesame thing wasn't offensive at all cause she barely has any boobs! i like her cooky unique outfits she wears...now i adore her husband russell brand. that's one hysterical MF! my fave xmas gift is his book-booky wooky! can't wait to start reading it!

now lady gaga. there is someone i'm sick off. madonna did it much better in the 80's. shes trying to ride her coattails. all of my girlies love her and the bachelorette party they blarred a mix cd of hers to nyc in the limo on our way to webster hall. just buy madonna. shes so much better!!

Its strange causes personally I have great taste in music, and I downloaded it as a lark, but its pure pop confection. Im not running out to see her in concert by any means but for what it is, its pretty brillant. N I have to say that firework is a great lil message that hit with the whole bullying thing that is going on.

Plus Peacock is just so damn fun.

Very true. Even if I love most 80s hits, I recognize that I like a fair bit of crap. lol
