Gorillaz To Release Free Album on Christmas Day

[img:$uid]http://i51.tinypic.com/72anmr.jpg[/img:$uid]

December 8, 2010

Gorillaz are set to release a new album on Christmas Day as a free download.

Damon Albarn is planning to release the record, recorded on his iPad, through his band's online advent calendar, through which he has been handing out digital goodies at Gorillaz.com since the start of this month.

His Gorillaz partner Jamie Hewlett told Australian newspaper Perth Now: "On Christmas Eve a video for one of the new songs from the iPad album will be released. Then on Christmas Day fans get the whole album downloaded to their computer for free as a gift."

Last month Albarn told NME he had recorded the album on tour and that he wanted it out by December 25.

"I wanted to make sure that it came out at the end of the tour because I don't want anyone to think I'd tampered with it," Albarn said. "If I left it until the New Year to release it then the cynics out there would say, 'Oh well, it's been tampered with'. But if I put it out now they'd know that I haven't done anything because I've been on tour ever since."

Nice.

I still haven't really digested Plastic Beach yet. Lol.

I'm wondering if there will be a P-sides release for PB like G-sides and D-sides for previous 2 albums. I heard Damon recorded a huge amount of material for PB. Anybody have a list of B-sides thus far for PB? I haven't been keeping up.

Regardles, this is cool news. cool

Yeah, you put it better than me, I haven't digested Plastic Beach yet. I bought all three albums pretty much the week they were released and it took me until 2004 to really get into the first album and about 2008 to get into Demon Days, maybe by 2014 Plastic Beach will click for me. I think a part of me is always a little disappointed that a new Gorillaz album is not a new Blur album.

I just checked the b-sides on wikipedia and it looks like they are all remixes. neutral

I couldn't agree more....seems there's hope for a new Blur album someday though. At least from what some of the band members have said. And we did get the new song Fool's Day fairly recently so I say there's hope. wink

It's weird, they did the Hyde Park concerts but said they had no plans to record then they did "Fool's Day" and since then I have been hoping for a full album. I guess it's better that they don't rush it and put out a mediocre album. I kind of wonder if Damon ever wants to do a guitar based album again, he seems pretty happy exploring other kinds of music.

Funny thing is, a few years ago, Damon seemed to be the one who was all for doing a new Blur album...not sure how he feels now. I think they will though.Eventually. And like you said, I'd rather they take their time and not rush into anything. Until then I'll continue "digesting" all this new Gorillaz material.cool

Btw, I recently read where Damon and Flea have some kind of project with african musicians in the works so if a new Blur album happens, it may be awhile.

Very, very cool! I'm one of those weirdos who greatly prefers Gorillaz to Blur. This album is definitely demo-ish, but I think it's a nice treat for fans, and it feels like an album. My favorites after one listen were "Revolving Doors" and "Amarillo".

Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

There are probably a lot more of you "weirdos" than you may think. I believe that the Gorillaz albums sold better in America than the Blur albums. While I personally prefer Blur the Gorillaz stuff is certainly interesting and I like quite a bit of it. Ideally, I would like Damon to alternate between doing Blur and Gorillaz albums. If we get one more good-great Blur album that features Graham I will be happy.
