What do you all think of Jennifer Hudson?

I think her voice is amazing. One of the best I've heard in yeaaaaaaars.
However, the majority of songs she record are nowhere near good enough for her. Too mainstream/generic/watered down (same can be said about Ruben Studdard to a certain extent, but had quite a few nice songs on his albums, too) with songs produced by those Swedish guys that produced with Neyo (was in Trackmasters?).

However, when she sings a good song...ooooh-wee!

I Love You I Do is one of my favourite.

You nailed it. I like her voice, but don't care for her songs.

I do think Ruben had some good songs on his first album though.

She's good but like you say,she needs stronger material.I wasn't too impressed with that "Spotlight" single.

Loud & all over the place as all hell.

I shouldn't talk because I love Patti & Chaka, but they tuned it down when its time to and wailed to the gods when its time to.

Plus, like it has been established. Her material puts the capital B in BLAH,,,except for her duet with Fantasia, now I'd love to hear more in that same caliber.

JHud, like so many prominent singers of the past 15-20 years, has absolutely no control of her instrument. It would be nice if these young aspiring singers were encouraged to be themselves and to cultivate their natural abilities. Instead we have these "producers" prodding these children to emulate a singing style that may well work for someone else but does not showcase their best assets. I personally wish she would keep the flailing to a minimum.

And the bulk of the material on her debut album is really poor.

That was the song that I FWD through on the album...I don't mind a good yellin match and I like Fanatsia and all just that song for me was nerve racking

nod Yes it was and "Spotlight" got on my ever loving nerves. I couldn't wait for the radio stations to put that song away already.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

She needs a new producer....someone who will give her some strong, distinctive, soulful tunes....not the same, predictable, watered down R&B bullcrap that all the other divas are doing.

A great voice that is wasted on dull music.

Like all of the American Idol winners, runner-ups and contestants, there's talent but not enough focus building on helping that talent blossom.

I would LOVE to hear J-Hud get it on with Flyte Tyme. If ANYONE out there in the Biz can do her justice, it's the Dynamic Duo! She's got a classic voice that beckons to record classic music! The little sista is a vocal POWERHOUSE! smile

Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

Jennifer Hudson is a Soul singer, a belter. However, belting went out of style back in the early 90's when Hip-Hop became the prominent force in black music. This is why the vocal production on her CD was watered down on most of the songs (Clive Davis has never liked belting). Young people aren't interested in artists who sing from their hearts and souls. Therefore, artists like Jennifer, if they want to sell, are going to be forced to perform below their standards.

Wrong songs, wrong producers - but very good voice. Her album was limp for the previously stated reasons.

Voice is amazing. . .Dreamgirls was nice. . .She said she is not going. . .but I think she should. . .Go and find another Producer. . .before her vocals get ruined( meaning tracks that don't excentuate her voice, Spotlight was a flop indeed)

Dude has absolutely no charisma and has horrible mic skills. The only reason why he's still there is because his wife's famous
