Rush ~ The Trees

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

great band, great song, but I just can't take it seriously.

I don't know what it is about Rush.

A band I always WANTED to love (and have a lot of respect for), but their main appeal still elludes me. Maybe a bit too faux-cerebral (along with most Prog)

Exactly...it's like they "can't close the deal" with me. I mean, really, hard to deny the sheer musicianship of Neil Pert & Geddy Lee...and they were SO CLOSE on a couple of projects (2112, All The World's A Stage) to makin some shit I could jam on....but....just lost me......

Man, what a career in Rock though.....talk about staying power....respect.

oh yeah i totally agree much respect, there are just artists that i think i just need to respect though and Rush is one of them, much like a Bob Dylan and Neil Young, its best i dont get involved, but the respect is totally there for what they bring

I think I got hung up on Rush's "typical fans" in my generation, too.

A comedian had a bit about Rush one time & said...."All the 'stoners' in my HS listened to Rush...and they were the one's who liked to beat me up & stuff me into lockers. It got so bad, I'd just HEAR a Rush song & just start RUNNING..."RUN!!!!, it's RUSH!!!!" lol

He was somewhat right, I think. Rush fans DID kinda seem to be dicks in my school.

Yeah i think because i had to deal with that in Junior High and High School, kids with their "rush" patches on their jackets etc.... you know the deal, and meanwhile i was listening to Rick Springfield, Billy Joel Elton John and Stevie Wonder which were considered "lame" to the Rush and Zep heads.

NOt to mention listening to QUeen over Led Zeppelin having to hear kids say, thats gay shit, etc...

This is one of my favorite songs of all-time. "And the trees were all made equal by hatchet, axe and saw" is the best lyric ever!

part of the reason I could never love them is because I could never see girls wanting to listen to them. Like Floyd, and Jethro Tull, and Styx.

I still remember when my elder brother discovered Rush, he made me go sit and watch the Exit Stage Left video with him, "you MUST see this".

One of my top bands since then. guitar
