why do you always misspell the past participle ?
it should be 'concerned'
sorry but it's always been bugging me [Edited 11/30/10 18:34pm]

2000 was the last year of the 20th century. Think of it like this, you're a decade old when you turn 10, not 9. You don't count year "0". By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Because sometimes I don't already take my time when I type.
EDIT: But then again, I'm thinking the present participle. [Edited 11/30/10 19:15pm]

So, the 80s' started in 1981 and not 1980?
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
No, because the 80s aren't a chonological decade, they're just the 80s, and that decade would span 1980-1989. But the 199th decade spans 1981 to 1990. Also, a decade is really ANY ten years. So if you started counting in 1965 that decade would end in 1974, not 1975. Here's the Wiki explanation, which is actually pretty good...
A decade is a period of ten years. The word is derived (via French) from the Ancient Greek dekas which means ten.
This etymology is sometime confused with the Latin decas (ten) and dies (days), which is not correct.[1] The other words for spans of years come from Latin: lustrum (5 years), century (100 years), millennium (1000 years).
Although any period of ten years is a decade,[2][3] a convenient and frequently referenced interval is based on the tens digit of the calendar year, as in using "1960s" to represent the decade from 1960 to 1969.[4][5] Often, for brevity, only the tens part is mentioned (60s or sixties), although this may leave it uncertain which century is meant. These references are frequently used to encapsulate popular culture or other widespread phenomena that dominated such a decade, as in The Great Depression of the 1930s.
Since the common calendar starts from the year 1, its first full decade contained the years from 1 to 10, the second decade from 11 to 20, and so on.[6] So while the "1960s" comprises the years 1960 to 1969, the "197th decade" spans 1961 to 1970.
A decade may also refer to an arbitrary span of 10 years. For example, the statement "during his last decade, Mozart explored chromatic harmony to a degree rare at the time," merely refers to the last 10 years of Mozart's life without regard to which calendar years are encompassed.
Thus, an unqualified reference to, for example, "the decade" or "this decade" may have multiple interpretations depending on the context.

Theoretically speaking, you're "0" if you're just born (1 month, 2 months, 3 months ... 12 months)

^I know what a decade is, I'm not retarded (although continuing this conversation isn't helping

YES!!! I'm not retarded, people understand me!!

Shit... I actually had something wrong in here....
Nope. The oughties were 2000-2009. 2010 is the last year of the 201st chronological decade beginning with the year 1 and will start the next named decade, which will probably just be called "the teens" again.
Fixed it! [Edited 11/30/10 20:19pm]

I used to say I was 0 years old as a child to describe how I was born but that doesn't make sense because if you're 0, you're still in the womb.

I can't explain why exactly, but it makes me really happy that this thread has been jacked by a completely nonsensical and unimportant conversation about what constitutes a decade.

True. "Dancing On My Own" is an anthem! I don't think she (Robyn) writes her own songs, though. Not that repeating "Alejandro, Alejandro" about a million times is that golden songwriting anyway...
It's ok to have confidence in yourself, your music and your album. It's when you're completely delusional...
Probably shouldn't even bring him up, since he's probably just the biggest troll in the universe, but at one point (don't remember when) Kanye said his "next album" is going to be better than "Songs In The Key Of Life".
Speaking of that, anyone old enough here to remember, did Stevie give out similar statements when he was making that album? "Oh yeah, I'm working on my album, b*tch, and it's gonna be THE BEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME"
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
wow... so she's gonna make the album of the decade in 2011... Doesn't that mean she isn't gonna release anything as good for the next 9 years?

For the 08-11 era, GaGa is completely worthy. She was marketed badly as a teeny dance star (Just Dance, PokerFace, etc.) but her non-singles material is by far stronger and more interesting. I thought she was crap too, until I heard The Fame album and I realized that it's pretty solid. Check out other Internet reviews: they usually give that album a 3.5-Stars rating, a 7 out of 10 or a "B" at the very least... If Gaga is crap, then Madonna is crap, Cindy is crap, early Whitney is crap, Kylie is crap, Annie is crap, etc etc ![]()
