Recommend an album to the poster above

Given the vast knowledge of the org, I thought a venture like this may be a good idea. My initial thought was to have posters list all of the albums they have from their birth year and have the poster below recommend them a different album from that year. However, the rules don't have to be that fixed- I suppose you can just pick any year for which you'd like a recommendation. lol

I'll start, and I will go with the birthyear format.

I was born in 1980, and it also happens to be one of my favorite years for music. Here are the albums I already own from 1980:

Blondie - Autoamerican

Change - The Glow of Love

David Bowie - Scary Monsters

Echo and the Bunnymen - Crocodiles

Gap Band - III

Gary Numan - Telekon

Grace Jones - Warm Leatherette

Joan Jett - Bad Reputation

Joy Division - Closer

Kano - Kano

Killing Joke - Killing Joke

Lou Reed - Growing Up in Public

Magazine - The Correct Use of Soap

Mtume - In Search of the Rainbow Seekers

OMD - Organisation

Pretenders - Pretenders

Prince - Dirty Mind

Roxy Music - Flesh + Blood

Siouxsie and the Banshees - Kaleidoscope

Talking Heads - Remain in Light

Tantra - Double Album

The Associates - The Affectionate Punch

The Cure - Seventeen Seconds

The Human League - Travelogue

The Sound - Jeopardy

Ultravox - Vienna

X - Los Angeles

Zapp - Zapp

What would you recommend?

Both came out in 1980.

Can't recommend anything worthy to sit beside them. If you like some Gram Parsons or Johnny Cash then there was Emmylou Harris' Roses in the Snow, but it's a bit of a stretch if not.

Based on your taste here, the one glaring omission I think is Bauhaus' In The Flat Field.

It's their best album in my opinion and is a great companion to Closer, Kaleidoscope and 17 Seconds.

edit: Assuming of course that you want to take that step from quasi-goth to real goth.

If you like Stevie and Aretha then the 1974 album I'd recommend first to you is Shuggie Otis' Inspiration Information.

I know you have a thing for chick vocalists, so I'll go with Nico's The Marble Index. It is VERY freaky, as well!

I see you have a little glam in there, so I'd recommend Kimono My House by Sparks.

I should have put that album on my list since I ordered a cheap copy from Amazon last week. It should arrive in my mailbox any day now. smile

OK, then the only other album I can recommend is my favorite from 1969. I'm not sure it's your taste, as it has a male vocalist who goes way off key sometimes, but his presence is still awesome, and the music is one of the greatest mindwarps I've ever experienced: Can - Monster Movie.

That one I will try. Another orger burned me a copy of Future Days which I thought was great, but never heard anything else by them. Thanks!

It's very, very different to Future Days, but still classic!

The Doors: The Soft Parade

They are definitely an acquired taste (especially their later albums) but their discography is a must IMO!

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.
