Yeah, well.... I don't know. I know R Kelly has been more REGULARLY present on radio when I listen. Janet just seems to get the same old songs played.

Fail. It's fact and it's not based the amount of #1's. If it was I think Aretha or James Brown would be number one, not Janet.

His music is always being played on radio. Old R&B stations, Urban and Pop play his music all the time. I guess his music is more consistent, Idk.

How has Janet released the same amount of albums as R Kelly, though? (She may have released more, even.) She must have released them a lot faster back at the beginning of her career. Because the certainly don't appear frequently these days.
I wonder of R Kelly's songs with other people are part of his count, or if it's just solo tracks?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Janet doesn't appear frequently these days because her recent music is being put on the back burner. So people think her music stopped in 2001. Yea, collabs count for both of them.

Overall R. Kelly released 46 singles in his career. Janet released 61.

Is that the new word for "Race" music? For the most part it looks like an Adult Contemporary list not R&B. Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Brand New Heavies, or Raul Midon is R&B to me, but they get no radio play. I quit listening to to the radio in early 1991. So most of the popular acts in any genre after then I've never actually listened to. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Janet Jackson don't need airplay
and Damn @ Freddie Jackson being mentioned in a top 10 list in 2010 "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

See, I'm using Discogs, which says 15 for R (which IS counting compilations, but isn't counting the new one, so 16) and 17 for Janet (which is counting a couple compilations and re-releases).
It also says 72 singles and EPs for R (the Trapped In The Closet releases were EPs, I believe), 79 singles and EPs for Janet.
However, the Billboard article at the beginning of this thread (which uses their own data) says R has had 84 charting singles and "The R&B icon continued to post new chart achievements in 2010, as he notched his 56th top 40 single with "When a Woman Loves."
So... whatever! It's confusing, which is part of why this stuff doesn't really matter.
Janet's album releases have been far more regular than I realized, though.

84 chartings which includes non-singles because he hasn't released that many singles.
and that's what everyone says about Janet

Yes, she does It's a shame people only remember her for her 80's to All for You hits.
He looks so misplaced. [Edited 11/18/10 22:43pm]

Well, I'm not claiming Billboard is a pillar of journalism or anything, but the article is using their own data (which is probably computerized so nobody has to think) and it says "singles". So I'm thinking it has something to do with including the additional 98 single and EP appearances Discogs shows for R. That would actually make a LITTLE bit of sense and explain why he would be that far ahead of some other artists. Nothing against her, but the same goes for Mary J. Blige. She's appeared on a gazillion singles by other artists.

That's true but I think even without the features they would still be where they are on the list.

ITS NOT THAT F**king serious...
i don't really care if its fact or not..... YOU FAILED... if you don't present me with the facts... back up what you say with facts.. if you want to call out fails....
cause im going by what numbers billboard mention.. and they said JANET JACKSON has the most 1 number 1 rnb songs of the past 25 years....
| |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
What are you talking about? You keep saying present the facts when Billboard already did. The list isn't about who has the most #1's, genius. It's based off the amount of time spent on the chart and the amount of singles that charted.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Im trying to figure out WTF you were talking about with the word "FAIL" ... you brought up james brown and aretha..... so give facts or stats to prove they would have the most number 1s in the past 25 years.....
Someone already replied to my response explaining how they determined the list.. I DIDN'T NEED YOU TO CHIME IN..... and repeat what was already said..... SO what are you talking about.....
LIKE I SAID... if the chart was based on number 1s in the past 25 years janet would be number 1... (that is not a F**KING FAIL) BUT OBVIOUSLY ITS NOT... and someone already explained that.....

I'm with bboy on this. She's a legend. If folks are that clueless that they think Janet didn't do anything past 2001 (or past 2004) that's their fault. [Edited 11/19/10 1:22am]

12 Play, his Public Announcement work and a few singles here and there are the ONLY material he made that I can listen 2.

Jay-z? He only had three. An white person made this list up, I can tell.
