What 1 famous artist is absent in your music collection?

Out of my 12,419 songs in I-tunes, I have zero: Madonna

Aretha Franklin. Whitney Houston. .... I know there's more, but those two seem to surprise people most.

I don't despise Madonna, it's just dawned on me yesterday while listening to Virgin on XM 80's on 8 station that I have none! I do despise Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, but not Madonna.

Elton John, BB King & David Bowie.

Not because I dislike them, but because I don't know where to start. I wanna invest some time in Bowie's music, ya know, have an hour to myself and just listen to him if I had the chance.

I was going to say Whitney Houston too, but then I remembered I have Jermaine Jackson's 1984 album where one song is a duet with Whitney. doh!

The next biggest artist would be Mariah Carey I think. I'm pretty sure she doesn't appear at all in my music collection.

Other big artists that are absent:

Eric Clapton

Celine Dion

The Grateful Dead

Billy Joel

Barbra Streisand

Donna Summer

I have had friends to make me homemade CD-Rs of hard to find songs and they have put a Shitney Houston song on the CD as a joke so that I can no longer say that I don't have anything in my collection by her. Well, the joke is on them because every time they do it, I take all the other songs and place them onto another CD and throw the CD they made me with Shitney Houston in the trash (where it belongs). I STILL have NO Shitney Houston in my collection and never will! lol

The Doors

Buddy Holly & The Crickets

Dave Clark 5

Grateful Dead

Peter Cetera solo, but I do have some 70's era Chicago and a few 80's

The Ramones

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Beyonce (post-Destiny's Child)

Dionne Warwick

Air Supply

Christopher Cross

-- I'm only deeply sorry about not have any Dionne tracks in my collection. But I do have a few artists (especially Sybil) that have done BETTER cover versions of Dionne's hit songs.

There are many big-name artists absent from my library, but the ones that are probably the most conspicuous given my tastes include...

Parliament redface (but I plan to change that soon; and I do own Funkadelic stuff, so... )

The Cure

Jill Scott, Erykah Badu (and a ton of "Neosoul" types; I'm really finicky when it comes to this genre)

Rick James

The Rolling Stones

hmmm

I'm gonna start with some mentioned already, but I'm limiting it to artists whom I wouldn't MIND having in my collection;

BB King

Grateful Dead

the Who

Led Zepellin

Elvis Presley

Miles Davis

...then there are artists that are sadly UNDER-represented in my collection;

the Beatles (no albums, just a few mp3s)

the Rolling Stones

Aretha Franklin

I'll need to think about this some more.

A lot of people are saying Grateful Dead, which actually makes me kind of warm and fuzzy, because at least you're acknowledging them. lol But as a SERIOUS Dead Head I have to say that I wouldn't expect most people to have any of their music unless you were into them, or maybe some other jam bands. Other than American Beauty and Workingman's Dead (both from 1970) they were never really easy to listen to. They're kind of all or nothing, because there's SO MUCH to listen to that you've got to wade through a lot of it to find what's going to click for you on a personal level.

I can't believe that I have NEVER owned a copy of Thriller. It is beyond me how this happened. It is also beyond me that the only MJ or Jacksons release I ever owned was Off the Wall on CD. I have at least 40 MJ/jacksons songs on my iPod. Weird.

Hope you do, you can leave or take everything else, but there's no sense of having the Funkadelic discography without its sister group smile

Not only that, but when you finally invest some time into tracking down Parliament stuff, you'll get so addicted you'll go after Parlet, Mutiny, Quazar, Eddie Hazel,, Bootsy and the rest of the side projects.
