Hall & Oates Are Growing On Me

Hall & Oates, for years seemed like one of those over produced pop band's with cheesy song's. But as i kept hearing they are very jazzy and soulful, thought i'd see for myself... and yes!!!! these guys are quite talented!

Both multi instrumentalist's, with soulful voices and soul beats, i love it! i have not gotten an album just downloaded a bunch of song's from itunes. I Am thinking of maybe albums?, but these guys are legit i really like them biggrin

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Now isn't that something..I too had a very mild interest in them through the 80s and also thought they were fluff until I saw them on CNN or something doing an all requests show. They did 'me and mrs jones' and it was just incredible how amazing a singer Darryl Hall was. For some reason, my interest was really piqued when I heard 'Everything Your Heart desires' in a shopping mall a couple of years ago. I was so impressed with this singing that I looked up some more stuff. I knew all the tracks and then realized how huge they were commerically as I knew the melodies to at leaset 15 of their songs and I never even had much interest. Then I saw Live at the Troubadour the live DVD. I was floored...I said, I was FLOORED. These guys can play and then sound amazing livec. They broke their biggest songs down accousitcally and it was just amazing. Check out 'Out of touch' accoustic and you will be pretty amazed at how powerful it is. Everything your Heart Desires is incredible too. I also heard some album tracks were just superb...'Get Away Car' and 'Uncanny' come to mind.

Darryl Hall is just an incredible singer. John Oates, i know less about but together they've been great.

If these guys are anywhere near, I'm going.

Here's some good songs.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I've started playing their music again recently. They had many good tunes in the late 70s-early 80s...thought their music lost the spark after that. A good one to start listening to is their greatest hits compilation and then branch out from there.

This 1976 album has more Oates leads than the average Hall & Oates album.

How funny we had the same thought's on them smile

But yes, man he is a great singer, on some of his songs he really belts it out soulfully.

I Also found it interesting they had number 1 hits on the R&B charts which is rare for white artist's to do that. The only other i can think of doing that is George Michaels

Daryl was in The Temptones during the late 1960's. They're a different group from the 1950's doo wop group with the same name.

I'm listening to the Essential Hall & Oates this afternoon on a hot sunny day...with tons of great songs on this collection...it fits my mood perfectly! Makes me remember what I loved about their music when I was younger... cool

I think Hall & Oates are some of the best to ever do it. Daryl's voice is amazing

I saw them at an outdoor concert earlier this summer. Oates didn't have the 'stache. I was terribly disappointed about that biggrin

John hasn't had a mustache since the early 1990's.

I've stated this on another thread earlier this year or last year, and I'm gonna say it here. If Hall & Oates comes anywhere in or near your state or country, GO and see them! You will NOT be disappointed. biggrin
