Kanye West I've just watched his SNL performance...and I just can't see why he's the Artist that he thinks he is! He's monotone, has no melody, and pretty much SUCKS! I'm sure it's just my old age, but REALLY, is this what our youths consider MUSIC? As far as I'm concerned....he and so many others on today's charts, need to take some music appreciation 101! More power to the talentless! If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

Hmmm... I haven't watched this performance, but if you're looking for melody, why the heck are you listening to a rapper?
I just can't make any sense of this LOL!
Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss...

Can you explain what you mean by this?

I had basically the same reaction to that performance.
But ya know, I've been watching (and participating in) the Kanye debates going on in the various threads, and I've come to the conclusion that it seems to be a generational thing. The older, more mature, music enthusiasts seem to have less appreciation for Kanyes' "talent", and generally frown on his antics. While the younger audience seems to embrace Kanye as the voice of their generation (despite being 33, and a bit older than what seems to be his core supporters - generally speaking). And they defend him fiercely, as I believe they're defending their right to choose their own heroes.
To me, I can almost equate it to: If you tell a young person not to smoke, that smoking is bad for their health; what's the first thing they're gonna do? LOL. They're gonna go buy a pack of cigarettes, lol. And they're going to enjoy the Hell outta those stogies, despite what anyone says or thinks, lol. Though they may have a change of heart, once they stop getting beat over the head with it. Same as if you try to tell a Kanye supporter that his music is crap, lol.
So, as I see it today, those who feel Kanye speaks to them; well, good for them, for having someone they can look up to and appreciate. And for those of us that don't "get it"? Well, it's probably just not ours TO GET, lol. Just like they'll never sell me on wearing my jeans off my ass with the back pockets down behind my knees, and like I'll never start a sentence with "know what ah'm sayin'", I'll probably never see Kanye as the musical genius that he and some others feel that he is. No problem.
I know what I like when I hear it, and if anyone is digging Kanye in ways that I'm not; well, again... Good for them! I hope they continue to enjoy whatever they enjoy, and I have no energy or desire to take that away from them. I enjoy plenty of artists that few others dig, lol. Nevertheless, I have actually purchased 2 Kanye CD's in the past, and won't rule out the possibility that he may produce something in the future that I may enjoy, or may put on a performance that I feel is worthy. As far as his current CD: I like "Blame Game" enough, but not enough to be excited about the entire CD (which in my opinion, and counter to what many feel) is not all that well produced.
One thing I can acknowledge about Kanye, most everyone has an opinion about him. Admittedly, I enjoy discussing him. And on a personal note, I wish him happiness and peace of mind.

One more thread, and he'll have a sticky!
You can criticize a performance here and there, but you're only commenting on him as a performer, not an artist.
Anyway, his performance from MTV VMA's this year when he did "Runaway" was much better.
I don't know which SNL performance you're talking about but the last one I saw was from the 808s era and it was not good.

Kanye West is a genius. Point blank period. His job is to entertain and thats exactly what he does. Even if you dont like him, he still has some kinda stage presence. I mean compared to other rappers Kanye can perform very well. Now i didnt like his other SNL performance and i havent seen this one. But ur opinion is based on only one performance. As far as his music goes he has some of the best production in the industry. He has a different sound thats way more diverse than just Hip-Hop. I think people are always gonna hate on hm based off his not likeable personality which is to be expected. But hes an artist and maybe the younger generation appreciates him more but if u really look at his body of work he does discuss deep concepts. Now Im not saying every song he does is meaningful because yea he still does talk about the usual women, money, etc. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and i can understand if you dont like his music but you cant discredit him as an artist or performer.
