Boy George: Culture Club Plan 30th Anniversary Reunion

October 18, 2010

Boy George has announced on his official website that Culture Club will reform in 2012 to celebrate their 30th anniversary.

Boy George states: “We're definitely doing it, in 2012. Our D-Day is April 30, which is the same day as our first-ever single release, “White Boy”... it’s going to be great fun. If we don’t do it now we’ll do it when we’re 60, which will be really tragic.”

Culture Club last played together in 2002 at Royal Albert Hall in London for their 20th anniversary.

Boy George recently collaborated on a track for Amy Winehouse producer Mark Ronson’s new album. The U.K.’s Daily Express says that Ronson will be in the studio with Culture Club next year working on tracks for a new album.

I can't wait for this! I love the song Mark Ronson did with George "Somebody To Love Me"...If Mark can work his magic with the talents of Culture Club, I'll be a fan for another 30 years!

If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

After all he done put them through, I'm kinda surprised but I guess even Boy George realizes he wouldn't have made it without them. This should be interesting.

Don't hold your breath. He's posting very strange and nasty things on his twitter page. I wouldn't be surprised if he's already back on the drugs. Also, some very sweet fan of his from Brazil who didn't speak English very well said something to him which was in incorrect English which he misunderstood and he called her a cunt and blocked her.

I loved Culture Club back in the 80's, but George can't sing now and is sort of a monster. He's just going to make things miserable for the rest of the guys. They should forget it and just leave everyone with the good memories. It will be just a mess which will destroy their legacy.

I wonder if Roy will participate. He didn't join Mikey & Jon when they tried to get the group back together a few years ago.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I forgot about all that. Apparently Roy was pissed they tried to pick a lookalike so it didn't work. I think the new lead singer got booed or something lol

I saw an interview with Roy on some 80's website and he said he would participate in it. Fans said that Roy didn't agree with the reunion with the other singer, but he's never publically spoken about it so no one really knows what his opinion about that was. The new singer was not publically booed, but fans attacked him online and the tour they did with him didn't sell.

There have been tensions between Roy and George, too. George said some horrible things about him and blamed him for the failure of the reunion album Don't Mind If I Do in his last autobiography Straight. But apparently Roy forgave George.

What I see in Culture Club is that the other guys have always been quick to forgive George for his bitchiness towards them but George holds grudges against the others.

Roy is probably the least eager of the others to do a reunion though. He lives in California and is pretty successful doing movie and tv soundtracks. So I don't know if the reason he didn't participate in the reunion with the other singer was because he was against it or because he was busy with his other projects and knew it would fail anyway.

But I doubt a CC reunion will happen or it does it will be a disaster, I used to like George back in the 80's but now I have no faith in him as a person or an artist. He's shown himself repeatedly to be a huge selfish jerk. He' has always treated the other members of CC like garbage with some huge diva act. He's an all about me person. I think he's incapable of working in a band situation.

George is not doing this out of generousity towards the other guys. He's doing it for himself because it will make him money. George has spent a lot of money on drugs, prostitutes and legal fees. If his solo career had been successful, he wouldn't even consider it.
