Can liking a music artist turn in to a obsession?

Im a music fan and have been a fan of artist like Prince, Michael Jackson, Babyface (1988), Bobby Brown (1988} Maxwell, Tupac and many others but i don't obsess over them and take everything personal and feeling that i have to explain for how they were in there personal life.

Is it me or is it unhealthy? This is something that only a 16 year teenager should be doing? For me personally if a grown man 25 and over + or a women this is a major emotional issue if you are doing this and it is affecting your every day life.

I like how you tried to tried to make it clear, in the beginning, that you aren't obsessing and then ask if it's bad to do so. What is this question in relation to? Of course it's bad to obsess over anything, especially when it's interfering with your day to day life. It doesn't matter how old you are.

You're asking that question on Prince.org, a site dedicated to a loony artist that hasn't made a decent album in 20 years to people that are still hanging in there....just in case.

Yes, everybody here has emotional problems and is batshit crazy, if that's what you're really asking.

Hell yeah, it can turn into an obsession. Just go over to the "Prince: Music and More" section and check out some of the loony toons over there. lol

Not to be pedantic but the general consensus is that The Gold Experience is a classic, which would mean you should have written 15 years.

I personally think he has made lots of decent albums in the last decade, but each to their own.

when i was in highschool and early college I obsessed over Janet Jackson, Britney spears and Beyonce. Seriously, i wanted to dress, dance, and look like them. I had posters and all kinds of stuff. Anyways now that im older, I don't anymore its just stupid, and i think "obsession" is for highschool kids.

the only person i may have kind of obsessed over all my life is Michael Jackson but even that died down, not my love for him.

Oh, yeah. Loving a musical artist can definately turn into an obsession. I used to be that way with Chaka Khan. At one point, I thought I was going to have to go into therapy.lol If she and I were in the same state, I probably would have been arrested for stalking at some point. eek I'm not as bad as I used to be. I don't feel the need to make excuses for her the way I used to. But, whenever she's on TV, I have to see her or when she's in a magazine, I gotta have it.

Well I don't know, depends on how you define "Obsessing". If it means threatening all the people who don't like the artist (like a Justin Bieber fan did recently) on the internet, or stalking your idol then no obviously it's not healthy. If it means buying two times their digital single, buying all their music releases and magazines and follow them on TV, defending them etc, it is pretty much a part of growing up I would definitely consider it more healthy than having nothing more than a passing interest in music. Now if you are grow up and still hang out in forums such as this like we do, and you still buy cds etc, many people would think it's crazy and immature, I would tell them that it is an escape and a bit of the child dreamer still surviving in us so it's all good.

Say what you want, the haters are the most obsessed of them all. It's one thing to post about your favorite artists, but there are some looney toons who make it their life mission to pollute threads about any artist they hate (you know who you MJ haters are!)

Well, yes, it can be an obsession. I should know, I'm a Scorpio. lol

For example, I've been obsessed with this sexy little purple man's music all my life, and that hasn't changed. wink It's not a bad or unhealthy thing as long as it doesn't get in the way of your life.

But I always go through artists that I obsess over, seemingly every year. Right now, I'm obsessed with that wonderful New Wave band from the 80's, XTC.

NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.
