THANK YOU!

His constant downplaying of his white privilege can be put to rest, but since we're living in a so-called "post racial times", he can def find some use in his downplaying.

And Deebee, you're not harsh or unfair, not by the slightest chance.

I'll keep it short, something I'm not generally very good at. lol Regardless of what anyone may feel about Marshall Mathers "talent", or lack thereof, the guy had a power and opportunity in his hands that very few people will ever touch and he did absolutely nothing with it. That's what will forever seperate him from someone like Tupac.

have you ever heard that Everlast Diss? That Limp Bizkit diss? That Benzino diss?? Rappers KNOW BETTER than to try and battle Eminem, he killed Jay Z on "Renegade" already and crushed everyone on Drake's "Forever", they just know better not to mess with dude...especially after how bad he crushed Benzino...killed his whole 'career' as much as LL did to Canibus.

Eminem has also talked on this subject on Recovery:

Went away I guess to open up some lanes
But there was no one who even knew what I was going through
Hatred was flowing through my veins
On the verge of going insane
I almost made a song dissin Lil Wayne
It's like I was jealous of him cause the attention he was gettin'
I felt horrible about myself
He was spittin and I wasn't
Anyone who was buzzin back then coulda got it
Almost went at Kanye too
God it feels like I'm goin' psychotic
Thank god that I didn't do it
I would of had my ass handed to me
And I knew it but proof wasn't here to see me through it
I'm in the booth poppin another pill tryna talk myself into it
Are you stupid? You gon' start dissin people for no reason?
Especially when you can't even write a decent punchline even
You're lying to yourself, you're slowly dying, you're denying
Your health is declinging with your self esteem, you're crying out for help

headbang headbang

Em knows better than to go after Weezy or Kaney outright. Either of those dudes could bury him. This is an acceptance/friend shot out. lol Clever and I dig it.

NO you already heard "Forever"..he had the tightest verse

The Slim Shady LP [Aftermath/Interscope, 1999]
Anybody who believes kids are naive enough to take this record literally is right to fear them, because that's the kind of adult teenagers hate. Daring moralizers to go on the attack while explicitly--but not (fuck you, dickwad) unambiguously--declaring itself a satiric, cautionary fiction, this cause célèbre runs short of ideas only toward the end, when Dre's whiteboy turns provocation into the dull sensationalism fools think is his whole story. Over an hour his cadence gets wearing, too. But he flat-out loves to rhyme--"seizure"/"T-shirt," "eyeballs"/"Lysol"/"my fault," "BM"/"GM"/"be him"/"Tylenol PM"/"coliseum," "Mike D"/"might be"--and you have to love the way he slips in sotto voce asides from innocent bystanders. Sticking nine-inch nails through his eyelids, flattening a black bully with a four-inch broom, reminding his conscience/producer about Dee Barnes, watching helplessly as an abused Valley Girl OD's on his shrooms, cajoling his baby daughter Hailey into helping him get rid of her mom's body, he shows more comic genius than any pop musician since--Loudon Wainwright III? A-

The Marshall Mathers LP [Interscope, 2000]
Unless you hope to convince the platinum hordes that you live on Mars, there's even less point moralizing about this one than there was with the last. Right, Marshall Whoever is homophobic; right, he breathes. In context, the worst thing about his casual fag-baiting is that it's at once so received--like the shock-horror his boys envision in "Amityville," the one provocation here whose boundaries are predictable--and, because he's a devastating wordslinger in every context, so hurtful anyway. But the real Slim Whoever seems far more deeply disturbed about stardom, drugs, his marriage, and boning his mom--which latter, like it or not, is the fantasy (or whatever) that sets all the rest up, a big fat fuck you to the black culture Eminem respects and owes so explicitly, for if Snoop or Too Short or DMX would never say such a thing, just how bad can they be? Disable your prejudgment button and you'll hear a work of art whose immense entertainment value in no way compromises its intimations of a pathology that's both personal and political, created by one of those charming rogues you encounter so much more often on the page--exceptionally witty and musical, discernibly thoughtful and good-hearted, indubitably dangerous and full of shit. He may yet give a fuck--he has it in him. But not on anyone else's terms or timetable. A"

Because you thought you and the other people in here were going to have the good nerve to say that Eminem's popularity was only because he is caucasian, when it has already been proven that white rappers have already succeeded in the past not because of being white only; but from having catchy songs, good lyrics or great productions no matter what color they are. Hell there are white girl rappers out there RIGHT NOW who has been trying to get popular for the past 5 or six years with no fame or noriety...and I don't see their names on no plaque or on somebodys mixtape. How about Paul Wall? Nobody checking for him lately either..the Beastie Boys? Cypress Hill had their couple lil hits, Atmosphere? 'White rap legends' in their own right...don't sit there and try to take away someones talent because of their skin color. Going to sit here and tell me those guys were only populat because they were white, or because they have talent?

The fact of the matter is Eminem is a caucasian rapper, with skills and talked about things many many rappers were too afraid to do. The fact of the matter is that Eminem will not ever BE black, so coming in here with these "if's" and shit is out of the question. God makes no mistakes; and if Eminem is supposed to present his talents to the world this way; then it will be, and it has been.

The subject was that if he were black he would get away with saying 'fag'..well..where were any of you when the others said it? Where were you? Where was your protest signs picket lines and dislike opinions on threads? Where were the news crews? I want the receipts.

I want answers..don't make me have to come back in here and slay again.

Em is in fact very talented. I loved the Marshall Mathers LP era! I was a little unnerved by the dropping of the f-word but I would let it slide, eventually. But yeah I agree, Eminem has done things other rappers could never dream of doing. That's why he's the best.

Yeah, I'm probably being slightly too harsh. lol I think he's definitely got a talent for wordplay, and even on something like Stan you see his ability to craft a narrative, which is impressive. I just think that he chose to forego developing that side of his craft, and decided to go along with churning out frat boy crap and controversy-courting, where he'd found his niche in the market. (I mean, at the point you can release Just Lose It as the lead single/video of an album, you have nothing left to say as an artist!) I just get irked when he pulls the 'poor me' crap, as he definitely made his own bed.

His problem to me is he is self obsessed. All he seems to be able to say is "I'm crazy" "I'm persecuted" "I'm just trying to raise my daughter" "people are obsessed with me" and, back then "kim is a bitch"

That's why he seems to gravitate toward stupid shit, because he doesn't have any other subject matter.

So you've heard about 3 songs from him? He raps in depth about heartache, envy, redemption, love, anger, resentment, death, suicide, obsession, pride, hope, forgiveness, doubt, success and failure. Thats just on his latest CD. Which deserves every award it is nominated for by the way. To say he has no subject matter is a little silly. I personally hope he retires after 'Recovery'. It would be a great way to end an excellent Hip Hop career.
