Sufjan Stevens - The Age of Adz
it's streaming in a few places online, in it's entirety. seems to have leaked before the weekend as well.
anywho, listening for the first time now and it's just and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Going to give it a good listen, but I have to say, hope it's a little more tuneful than the EP. He's always been a little noodley, but feel like his recent stuff is going too far in that direction.

it's still noodly, but in a different way. in an electro cacophany kind of way
i love it and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I love this! It's nice to see Sufjan look back at Enjoy Your Rabbit but this time with far more interest in melodies and accessibility. He's coming to LA in October and I'm stoked for the show, especially now that I've heard the new material.
Plus, in the 5th row center, I can see all his adorableness!

brilliant stuff | |

indeed. and it's so layered in places that it will keep you returning for a long time.
i'm also listening to the EP a lot, which has got some very good stuff too. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Wait, there's two albums coming out? Space for sale...

well, he just released an EP called "all delighted people", which is basically just a short album in it's own right since it's about 60 minutes long and has 8 songs on it (the title track twince, in two very different versions). also, none of the songs from the "EP" are on the new album.
the EP is more 'regular' sufjan stevens and the album, "the age of adz" is really the full fledged new sufjan release with a dramatic shift in production. the album is mainly electronic. think of it as a cross between "Enjoy Your Rabbit" and "Seven Swans". Lots of electro and weirdness, but with nice melodies and actual good songs to hang them on.
good stuff. both releases.

ahhhh, and the EP is only available as a download cause I looked for it as Best Buy and Rasputin and they said it's not coming out to October. I am assume the October release is actually Adz, right? Space for sale...

just checked the official site. the EP is indeed, download only.
the album Age of Adz is available as CD or LP from the site, but if you order it, you get immediate access to the album in the form of download MP3s. the actual hard copy then ships october 12th.

downloaded it the other night, but like almost every other album this year, it's still gone unheard.

i know. i have the same problem. lately i've been catching up with albums that i've had for a long time now without being able to really listen to them a few times and let them sink in.
but this year i've only downloaded something like 15 albums in total and been working my way, slowly through what i've stocked up over the past few years.
for instance, when i was getting myself a copy of the new Antony & The Johnsons album, and EP, i finally managed to sit down a night and actually listen all the way through to the previous album "the crying light". and i loved it so much i could truly not understand why i hadn't been listening to it more often.

I did like the more electro stuff he did last time I saw him, so maybe I'll dig this more than the EP. I hate to say it, but I'm over his overly-fragile renn-fair ballads.

2008 & 2009 were completely about new music for me, catching myself up on what's out there, trying to establish some new interests and even favorites. 2010 has brought me right back into an old habit of dwelling on old favorites for months at a time. Beatles, Bowie, Prince, now Bjork. and the fact that it suddenly dawned on me that I could dl Howard Stern every day after not hearing him in about 5 years has almost completely derailed my adventures in new music. I haven't even given any time to new releases by established favorites like Rufus Wainwright, Arcade Fire, Hot Chip, Goldfrapp, Johnny Cash, etc.

Oh my God.
Instant 5-star classic for me, even with my stricter rating system! This is unbelievable. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

So weird, I love Illinoise to death- have seen him 3 times in concert already, but I'm just not feeling this new stuff. Just feels to me that he went to the wrong side of the wanky, jammy, precious fence (which he was already dangerously close to, which was part of the appeal)
The electronic tracks just feel...cluttered. And don't really add anything to his overall sound.

I couldn't disagree more! I love Illinois a whole bunch, but The Age of Adz makes it sound almost amateur in comparison. There is such a fiery, battle-tested steeliness in this new material, and it burns to life through each moment for me! His wonderful storytelling of Illinois has turned inward for the new album, and it sounds like he's entrenched in the fight of his life- each molten beat and volcanic synthesizer a weapon wielded in a war for his sanity and his soul. Love it to death! Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

This album is definitely . Sometimes the focus seems to be just a bit too much on production and sounds rather than songs, IMO, but it's definitely . Great stuff.
I mean, WTH is happening at the end of 'Too Much'? Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right?

Probably this one and Andrew Weatherall's 'A Pox On The Pioneers' for me. Both have similarities, too. Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right?
