The top 5 all have at least 4 more votes overall. The #1 album has just one fewer 1st-place vote, but 3 more top 10s and 11 more votes overall. I'm surprised about Ziggy and that number 4, amazing really; Ziggy has annihilated Talking Book, The Stones, Sly, Michael Jackson ...and Prince

These polls need more penis bets.
How about this: If The Beatles get at least 5 albums in the top 10, I'll hack off mine. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Man, be ready to chop off your instrument as well...it's clear that Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt.Peppers, Abbey Road, and probably A Hard Day's Night, The White Album and even Magical Mystery Tour will all make the top15
anyway, does this mean that the 60s Poll is ready to rock, ready to roll ????!!!!
I have both lists ready | |

Wow two months after the polls have closed we finally got the top 10. I had forgotten about it a few times. I'm glad a couple of the albums I listed made it to #1 and #3.
Thanks Ian! It was a fun decade. Now for the decade I never knew but embrace fully...The 60's!!! So I'm guessing the deadline for that poll will be Jan 31st. It gives you 2.5 months to rest, and plenty of time for the listers. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

Yeah, sorry about the long delay. I know it's been disappointing. My PhD has been C-R-A-Z-Y over the past few months, so I've been exhausted typing pages and pages of code for simulations and 3 sets of presentation slides as well as the first article I'm hoping to submit ().
I'll open the 60s poll in the next day or so. We'll see what a reasonable deadline is- it seems as if a lot of people have lists already ready to go. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

You're gonna lose that bet. The Beatles will fill the 60s top ten the way Prince did the 80s.

Well its obvious that Bowie and Wonder dominated the 70s in our books. And rightly so, Stevie put out one classic after another in the 70s. Good to see Prince just scraped the Top 10 and every single single track on the album got a ranking. Lets roll on the 60s Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles anyone. Or perhaps as going backwards albums are practically unknown before the invention of 33rpm long player 12 inch vinyl discs in 1948 and actual albums on 33rpm are hard to find before 1955. As you shellac was very heavy and fragile and the war years had meant many records were destroyed as shellac was a valuable war material. Not to say before the Post War affluence records were ectremely expensive and people could not afford to buy a large collection of records and even then they had little durability, one drop and it was gone. Also really old records wore out quickly and cheaper brands of phonographs used needles that were good for one play only (People used to buy tins of 100 needles up to about 1950). For the 60s' - - What about the different Beatles & Rolling STones albums - is there going to be a standard? I assume most will use the original UK releases * * *

US releases, of course, the US releases of the Beatles have been remastered (09/09/09)...the Uk releases are vinyl relics, and I'm not sure if they have been released on CD, perhaps not even in 1986...
Beatles 60s US albums (the standard)
Please Please Me Meet the Beatles A Hard Day's Night Beatles for Sale Help Rubber Soul Revolver Sgt.Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band Magical Mystery Tour White Album Yellow Submarine Abbey Road

I'd also use the US standard for the Stones:
England's Newest Hitmakers (remastered in 2002) 12x5 (remastered in 2002) Now! (remastered in 2002) Out of Our Heads (remastered in 2002) December's Children (remastered in 2002) Got Live if You Want it (remastered in 2002) Aftermath (we can mix here both the UK and US version, both were remastered in 2002) Between the Buttons (same as Aftermath, mix the Uk and US versions, both were remastered in 2002) T.S.M.Request (remastered in 2002) Beggar's Banquet (remastered in 2002) Let It Bleed (remastered in 2002)
I wouldn't include Flowers cuz it was a US collection of Uk singles of the Aftermath-Between the Buttons era... [Edited 11/14/10 10:09am]

[Edited 11/14/10 10:00am] You're confused. The standard (as established in 1987 and used again in 2009) is the UK versions (with the notable exception of MMT). The second album is With the Beatles. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

yes they are the uk versions and that is the way the beatles recorded them and it has to be the uk versions we use.....the americian albums were stuck together any old way ....

So, the 09/09/09 remasters are the UK versions??

of course....apart from the americian version of magical mystery tour album which was only released as an ep in the uk....all the albums are the uk versions...of course...from st pepper onwards..the albums were the same in both countries anyway..

+ Aretha Otis Dusty Springfield The early "The Who" The Byrds Neil Young with C,S & N Cream
I've had a greeeeeat time doing the 60s list... 127 albums + 200 songs

We had lots of time for the 70s poll which was much appreciated so I'd similarly like the deadline for the 60s poll to be sometime in January. With all the holidays coming up, it will be difficult for me to finish a good list before then.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I still think, the next poll should be sixties and earlier, as albums from the 50s and earlier you are not going to get many responses, it will be like
Umm that James Brown album with Please, Please, Please Heres Little Richard Elvis Elvis Presley (Which one was it again??) The Bobby Darin one with Splish Splash Surfin Bird (Oh I forgot thats 60s)
And again as I reiterate albums did not really become concept pieces of work until about the very end of the 60s like 1967 onwards. I mean take excellent albums like Beatles for Sale and 12 X 5 as good as they are, many pre 1967 albums a merely a couple of chart hits meshed in with some bad filler (Motown was notorious for this technique, the Supremes did 3 albums a year, most had 1 or 2 chart hits and that was it). Even early Beatles and Stones were hits with covers or filler (Even though their takes on cover versions were excellent, many lesser artists were not). And if you were lucky a live set would drop and the ubiquitous theme albums or albums in other languages like Jem Apelle L Barbra. So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

ummm... NO
2 reasons: a) the 60s have nothing to do with the 50s or the 40s, specially after 1963...In fact, 1968 or 1969 almost feel like 1970 or 1971... b) the song list would be a mess (do you imagine mixing 30s jazz with Come Together? wtf , and anyway, it should be expanded to 300 songs or even 350...and Moonby doesn't like that...
that said, a 1900-1959 poll would make a lot of sense
and what about a 2000 bC-1899 dC poll?
