Christina Aguilera Blames Lady Gaga For “Bionic” Flop

August 17th, 2010 by Castina

Tagged as: Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga

Faced with poor sales and rumored strife with her longtime label home, RCA, Christina Aguilera’s playing a “Dirrty” blame game — and Lady Gaga’s at the center!

The buzzed-about failure of Aguilera’s heavily-promoted fourth album, Bionic, has reportedly shocked her label, prompting music insiders to say that her label RCA is in “rescue mode.” Sales for the disc barely hit 200,000 in nearly two months of release and Xtina’s got an idea why: Her pop nemesis Lady Gaga.

“Christina thinks fans saying she’s ‘Gaga lite’ has thwarted her success,” an industry tattle spilled to Britain’s NOW Magazine this week. “They’ve slammed her latest image as a poor imitation.”snoops even claim that the “Fighter” hitmaker’s been forced to accept private gigs after cancelling her summer tour due to low ticket sales (or a lack of rehearsal time, depending on who’s telling the story).

NOW

“Christina’s performing at Bar Mitzvahs and weddings. She wanted to charge £1.3 million a time but her hubby Jordan Bratman convinced her to lower it to £157,000 so she’ll get more gigs. It’s embarrassing for someone once so successful to resort to this but blaming Gaga’s just crazy!”

They should've stressed just how badly it did, the huge UK drop was actually record setting!

Not Myself Tonight - peaked at #23, dropped steadily once the horrible video came out.

WooHoo - sparingly released, a video was in the works but canned, the song canned, too, despite her performing it at the MTV Awards.

You Lost Me - ignored by radio everywhere, WAY too slow and boring for radio, anyway. Doesn't resonate at all like her other more successful ballads did cuz everyone knows she's happily married and not going through a break up like the song depicts. Another awful low budget video.

Britney's Blackout sold more on the first day than Bubonic did in one week, and that was when Britney was at her absolute worst (just weeks after that VMA performance, too!)

Basically, Xtincta got too confident about her own impact as a singer. She obviously figured her voice would be enough and that quality content didn't really matter cuz, hey, she's the ~voice of a generation~ so no one will notice if the songs actually stink. The whole concept of Bionic was so badly thought through, she probably figured she'd dominate the music and movie charts by doing both at the same time J-Lo style and rushed it out.

Having said all of this, she could've had some success with either Elastic Love or I Am.

ok..little rant.....

her attitude and ego really killed the project. i hope her management & label talk to her about something called humility and how to make a proper comeback. her interviews leave much to be desired.

stop with the severly bleached blond hair and the kinky Marylin Monroe look. it has been done to death. the album...titled BIONIC. well the cover reflected that, the inside artwork was all about s&m and cartoons. WTF? stick with the theme. the album was too long....which would be cool from a fan's point of view but it was almost half 'filler' tracks. or b-sides at best. she kept saying it was all new and never heard before, cutting edge, blah blah blah. right Christina.

1st video. well you've all seen it. single: flops. album: flops. tour: cancelled. 2nd single: flop.

now she bails on the project. well if you don't believe in it, no one else will. do some smaller venues. follow through to some degree. damn! i think that was a slap in the face to fans. and it's not the 1st time she's done it.

she has the VOICE and though some of the songs are great, the 'cutting edge' or 'competing' with the current wave of girls was her undoing. she looked silly. she could've made a sexier video and more imaginative one with the right people. Celine, Whitney, Mariah, those should be her peers. they're always talking about how she's headstrong and independent. how she has her own vision. someone needs to tell her NO!

ANYWAY... i like, about half the album. love her voice. and true, it should only be about the music, but when you present it in such a fashion or keep running your mouth like you're the 2nd coming of Christ...you had better bring it.

where's THIS girl??? neutral

Frankly, I think if she had done "Bionic" in 2006, and "Back To Basics" this year, both albums would have been a lot better as they would have been different to what everyone else was doing at the time.

Totally agree on the switch w/ the two albums. That sound was hot a few years ago. I think folks like Madonna kind of set that into swing in 1998 when Ray of Light and Music. The sound grew, and Bionic would have fit greatly in the public a few years ago. It would have been more "fresh" and trend-setting three or four years ago. These days, a lot of bands are hearkening back to the older soul/R&B sound (Leela James, N'dambi, Sharon Jones). Neo-Soul has taken a turn toward that sometimes, and stuff like Back To Basics would have, again, set a standard in that field. She's making bad decisions. I understand an artist wanting to do new things, but timing is everything. She has no sense of culture, or the musical landscape, but rather just how swollen her vagina is at the moment.

...and there it is.

To me, to hear that she does not care if, the album sell or if the songs are a hit, is like me saying I don't like enrolling a student and once they are enrolled, I DON'T care if they graduate. The basis on whether or not an album sells and is a hit, STARTS with the effort that you put forth, during the creative process. This is exactly what is wrong with the music of today....Some artist just don't give a shyt...

She's just trying to buck the fact that it's a dismal failure. "Oh I put my best into it and I am proud of that." Yeah, 15 song about your vagina is something to really write home about.

After this year is over, she will have to re-group and figure out what to do next.I think she should drop the gimmicks,go back into the studio and record a stunning, soulful album that places her VOICE front and center. She's still an incredible vocalist.

Believe me, this girl releases one solid/perfectly fine or great album, and then the follow-up is a disaster: debut (smile )-->Stripped (barf) and BacktoBasics( cool )-->Bionic bored) ...

Her next release will be great, believe me...

Anyway, it's such a shame that the GREATEST female pop voice of the 00s is currently in serious trouble confused

I don't get why people say she's the "greatest" or "best" vocalist of now.

She's the ONLY "big" vocalist this generation has. Sure, Beyonce and Gaga can both belt and scream for days but they prefer to remain relevant or at least change it up, vocally, with each song. Leona Lewis could've been a threat but she fell off quicksmart thanks to shitty material. Otherwise, Xtina has no competition vocally. Being the only one of your kind doesn't make you the best at anything. I'd like to have seen her compete with the 90s vocalist divas. Or I'd at least like to see what's left of her voice now go up against the still very powerful Beyonce and the incredibly versatile Gaga. Considering she's lip synced or just plain failed at most of her biggest notes in the last few years, I doubt she'd be able to compete.

(And before anyone goes crying about Gaga not being talented, I'm talking strictly vocal, youtube her cover of Imagine and her performances of Speechless @ The Monster Ball and STFU lol)

I wish she would look at why Stripped was a success (and its weak points) and go from there.

I heard some of Bionic and it was so weak. She even had that dumb faux-rapping on it. Girl, your voice was not meant for that. Leave that to the girls who can't do what YOU do.

I didn't take "so much time". Don't exaggerate it to try and knock me down a peg. It won't work.

I cut and pasted a news article. If you refer to the original post, after you've lifted the veil of hatred from your eyeballs, you'll see a source link to the original article. I type 100 wpm. My 10 word statement before the link and article took about 2 seconds. Not "so much time", really.

And if you're going to attempt to pound on me, you need to use the Search feature on the page first, and look at the massive negative reviews by people on this website for Bionic. If you're going to go after the naysayers, go after all of them. You wouldn't want to seem like biased and slanted now would you? no no no!

Hi Ernestsewell,

you are right, I do not know you at all indeed.

I do not know what have you listened to as well.

Definitely not Bionic. Because that is the topic, not you.

Bionic has 18 songs. You can say that 3 of them may refer to her vagina. One for sure.

The same statement about forgetting about an album once it's out it's something us, Prince.org followers are very familiar with and mostly even agree (at least I do. Once the album is out it's about promotion not artistry or creation anymore).

Now, say what you will about the fact that you do not like this album or whatever; I am fully aware of all the negative reviews that are out there, what amazes me is indeed the amount.

All of this said, sorry if I came up rude, I honestly do not know why I feel so much for this smile

I guess it's my own reaction to see a whole internet population just jumping on the same opinion in no time.

I still don't get the connection. Christina released her album in a bad time and it seem like her label was trying to push for her to do mainstream stuff and it just fell apart. She needs some time to recuperate. Maybe after a bit of a rest, she can rebel against what the label pushes on her and release an album where she just puts it all on the line rather than compete with fledgling newcomers or rising pop stars or emerging pop superstars.
