Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible

I still remember the day I bought this album back in 1994, so you can imagine my level of expectation (back then, when everybody was Oasis vs. Blur, I was a true Manics fan lol ).

And I still remember the effects after the first listening, to the point that it became an instant favorite of mine. (Just like I remember how I felt after listening to This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours - that's when I started to find the Manics boring confused )

But life goes on and one discovers new bands and new albums and there's never enough time to go back and re-listen some good old beloved stuff - and then it happened. My elder bro passed me a cd and said 'you should listen to this'.

I'm not a big fan of albums remasters, especially when the remastered one can be one of your favorites - but this 10th anniversary edition just killed me. After listening to the US mix the album came to my life again, adding to my memories brighter colours, bigger sound...

You don't know how much I'm enjoying this album again.

[And yes I know the Manics have a new album out now]

[ I hate purity
Hate goodness
I don't want virtue to exist anywhere
I want everyone corrupt ]

I am an architect, they call me a butcher
I am a pioneer, they call me primitive
I am purity, they call me perverted
Holding you but I only miss these things when they leave

I am idiot drug hive, the virgin, the tattered and the torn
Life is for the cold made warm and they are just lizards
Self-disgust is self-obsession honey and I do as I please
A morality obedient, only to the cleansed repented

I am stronger than Mensa, Miller and Mailer
I spat out Plath and Pinter
I am all the things that you regret
A truth that washes that learnt how to spell

The first time you see yourself naked you cry
Soft skin now acne, foul breath, so broken
He loves me truly this mute solitude I'm draining
I know I believe in nothing but it is my nothing

Sleep can't hide the thoughts splitting through my mind
Shadows aren't clean, false mirrors too many people awake
If you stand up like a nail then you will be knocked down
I've been too honest with myself I should have lied like everybody else

I am stronger than Mensa, Miller and Mailer
I spat out Plath and Pinter
I am all the things that you regret
A truth that washes that learnt how to spell, learnt to spell

So damn easy to cave in, man kills everything
So damn easy to cave in, man kills everything
So damn easy to cave in, man kills everything
So damn easy to cave in, man kills everything

This was the last album that Richey was involved in before he disappeared/killed himself, right?

Very tragic story. I don't think they were ever the same after that.
