I guess. I was listening to eighties electro (for breakdancing ), Prince and metal when I was that age. That kind of pop music, thankfully, has never appealed to me.

Thank you! People are famous now because someone says they are. It's just bizarre. I woke up one morning and Justin Bieber was huge.

Kanye was horrible, I guess he was toasting himself. You would think they would at least want to try to end a terrible show with a half way decent act.

This show was all kinds of fuckery. Gaga looked a hot mess and her antics are getting so tired now. I hollered when Cierror came out struting in a fucking parking lot only to be stand-by for Nelly Furtado. BWAHAHAHA! Nicki doing jazzercise in a diaper and trying to pop her surgery enhanced cakes was funny. Usher's performance was very basic with the whole imitating of MJ moves and the strobe lights. Meh. All his performances seem like he's exercising. Even Chris 'beat them' Down is a better performer and that's not saying much. [Edited 9/12/10 23:20pm]

My 5 year old son likes him, but my son also loves Kayne, Kid Cudi, Daft Punk and electronic music and he also knows all about older artists like Prince, MJ and so on...
I personally don't see anything wrong with Bieber. He's like the only artist that I don't have to worry about the lyrics.

As cute as the kid may be, and as good of a performer he is for his age. When he hits 18 he is going to have a lot to live down. That haircut for starters. He should save of his earnings for the therapy he will need.
Not even JT looked anywhere near as dorky performing for the freekin Mickey Mouse Club, he had nothing to live down, unless you count doing Britney between milk and cookie breaks, but she was cute back then.

I agree. I got up and walked into the kitchen for some left-overs after 30 secs...(wait, I lie...I gave him about 45)... of that mess. The sets and back-up dancers upstaged the performers. "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack

You know when Usher was out of breath during his performance?
That was Michael coming down from heaven and slapping the shit outta him in the back "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Last year there were a heck of lot more people posting on the VMA thread. If the measly 3 people posting on this years thread is any indication, the ratings for this years show tanked. And the three of us posting here need to get a life.

I guess you could say he's like David Cassidy, Bobby Sherman, Donny Osmond...harmless and dull. Even as an adolescent I hated those squeaky clean pretty boys. I was into Jim Morrison @ 11. "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack

Seriously Usher was on fire!! Now that i've seen the whole show, Usher and Kanye's were without a doubt the best performances of the night.I also enjoyed Linkin Park and gasp....Justin Beiber. He tore those drumsupand had great energy.Ijust hate how cocky he is. The show overall was abit disspointing though. I washoping for more. God damn, I love Kanye West. A true artist and visionary. I will support him always. I loved how the crowd chanted his name when he was done.

Ya, exactly. They have their place and I`m cool with that....I'd never tell my kid not to listen to something...especially that harmless.
And, I have to admit, I don`t mind some of the tracks on his newer album...he does/did have a great little voice.

Oh I certainly don't see anything "wrong" with him. It's not like Gagag, Kesha, LMFAO, 3Oh3 and about 100 other "artists" I could name that I think should all be dropped off a very high cliff. I don't find him offensive, but I don't find him interesting or appealing, either.

I actually thought Kanye's performance was pretty interesting. It was minimal on purpose, which was nice for a change. I also liked the beat and the hook - need to hear the verses again before I can be sure about it, though. Thought it was cool that he had an MPC out there, too. It's a nice nod to a lot of what they do and probably makes it different than the studio version or future performances.

Justin Bieber cannot dance, I don't care what anybody says. He's awful. And what's even worse is, apparently, Usher is a horrible dance teacher. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

YES!
And who is that Jason Derulo dude? He has just appeared out of nowhere like Bieber. The heck did he come from, and why is he famous? "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

Hereitgo
I thought the show was horrid. Where is the musical talent in the Video MUSIC Awards? Who played an instrument tonight? Not Swizz Beats.
The songs seemed all fast with lyrics that appeal to 15 year old girls. ...Justin Timberlake introduced Drake as the "most exciting performer"???????
ugh.
Kanye's song was kind of clever but not clever enough to get past how passionless it came off. A toast for a douche bag?
What can I say positive?
I thought Taylor Swift's song was probably the best part of the show. It's cool to forgive in my book. ...Usher's stage and choreography were tight. ...I thought Linkin Park rocked and I appreciate the soulfulness in their vocals. ...I thought the Beiber kid did his thing well.
Compared to the BET Awards, MTV gets a #fail.

Usher's performance was pretty awesome, even if the first part is all MJ choreography. Oh well, this is his first big performance since MJ's memorial so I guess it makes sense considering what a big influence MJ was on his career.
EDIT: Thank god MTV is forking out the cash to actually hire a BIG stage again. Last year was good, this year a HUGE improvement. 2008 looked like they all crowded into someone's garage. [Edited 9/13/10 4:05am]

Yeah JT what exactly are you comparing DRAKE too? Most exciting? he has the personality of a sponge, if you get excited over Drake then u have issues with excitement problems. The show is just as exciting, its not relevant just like the network, look who went to this shit, Half of the HILLS chicks, the Jersey Shore cast, and nothing more than d list celebrities, shit if you cant get the Kardashians to come to the show, you are finished at this point, cancel this mess, its over just like the network "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F
