Is there any truth to the rumor about the girl giving him a B.J., and that's why he crashed?
No. Of course they didn't cover that, they did mention how going around the street where Teddy crashed was a little difficult and easier to crash through.
I felt a little empty after watching it. It didn't seem to satisfy me as much as the other episodes they have done. His story is certainly an interesting, and tragic one, but there was just something missing from it.
When he was singing, I kept thinking of Eddie Murphy imitating him. "YOU GOT, YOU GOT, YOU GOT, YOU GOT WHAT I NEED!"

Lincoln Drive is no joke if you're speeding. I lived in Philly for college for four years so I've been on that road a few times. I heard his brakes failed, but I wouldn't doubt that he was speeding down that road.
Just finished watching it. I'm on the rag so I was boo hooing thoughout the show. I thought it was very well done.
I had no idea about the Vegas shows either.
I did hear about ol girl giving him a BJ in the car tho. Teddy was a good looking dude minus that RUG he poppped on his head briefly there. THAT shit had me cracking up!
I caught the special this morning and I have to say that it was well-done and heartfelt at the same time. I never knew that the drama between he and Harold Melvin was that deep and complex. I never read his autobiography, but I knew there was some craziness between that group and his choice to leave so early to endure a solo career. In fact, I believe his 1977 hit, The Whole Town's Laughing At Me is based on his departure from Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes. Anyway, I thought that this special was excellent, but like ernestsewell stated, it was missing some stuff.
I thought that they could've added the story behind his triumphant performance with Ashford & Simpson at Live Aid back in '85. It was definitely a highlight of his career and it did silence folks who thought he lost it after the car accident. That would've definitely given the special some more gravity and enlightenment, but what can you cover in a brief hour?

Was that a rug or a perm. Perms were popular hairdo's, back in the day.. Pimpadelic!!

I don't know WHAT that was. It looked like a wig to me, and when dude said they called him rug cause his hair wouldn't grow, but he went to the shop and came back with that THING, dude was like WTF is THAT on your HEAD! I just immediately assumed he'd gotten a wig. Tho it could have been a relaxer/perm too. Either way it was a hot damn mess!

I remember wondering why the group was called Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes when Harold wasn't the one singing, but I didn't know it was like THAT. If that mattress story is true, Harold ain't right.

Sure ain't! One of the members of the group was featured on the special and he even said that Harold was a vicious man, so he was probably doing the other guys wrong as well.

I could've sworn I read somewhere that his son said that Teddy loved speeding in his favorite cars......so in that case, no I wouldn't doubt at all that he was in fact speeding on Lincoln Drive.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Sounds like that group went through more trade-ins and replacements than the Temps. But I have to say it was definitely a blessing that Teddy walked away from the "mattress" situation, because I think if it had been the average man, somebody would have ended up dead that day in that house.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
In that "If You Don't Know Me By Now" performance clip, Teddy thought he was Superfly.
Eww that hair looked so awful and nasty. But when they did that hand clap, it made me
It did, it look like a skunk. I guess Teddy figured after this, this was too much. Then when they appeared on Soul Train, he was styling this:
Which was slightly better. I think they appeared on this after that performance too lol
I'm thinking when he first came on the scene that's when that skunk appeared, I don't know the actual date of the other performance though so I'm not too sure lol
Yeah. I think so anyway. I think the story went around that he and Tenica were dating but I don't know if that's true or not. I think the truth so far was Teddy was taking Tenica home...I think...I don't know lol
i have the albums with bad luck and wake up everybody on them at home. whenever i hear the opening chords of 'wake up', i'm transported back to being a little girl and remembering how much i got out of the song's message.
i also remember the harvey wallbanger cake thing my mom was going thru at the time ... she must have made one of those bad boys every weekend for months!
I grew up near Philly and Teddy was a HUGE star there. HUGE. From what I remember hearing years after the accident at family gatherings was that he was getting a BJ and that there was a woman in the car. I think there were drug rumors as well.
