The thing that surprises, maybe even impresses me most about Beyonce at this point is that she has managed to remain not only in the public eye, but a HUGE star for more than a decade (Destiny's Child 'No, No, No' was 1998). It's almost impossible to stay on top that long without working through some sort of major backlash. But not for Beyonce, she just keeps beating you over the head until you submit. She didn't break ANY of the same ground, imo, but she's getting close to reaching Madonna levels of recognition. Little kids know who she is, old people know who she is, everybody in between definitely knows who she is. Can she stay in peoples consciosness for the next 10-15 years without making them hate her? That remains to be seen. But she's clearly trying.
of course, she is, haven't you read all the crap bout peeps sayin she is a legend? ( peeps= her sister etc)

I remember I used to feel like I had to see the VMA's back in the 90s, but I stopped watching after 2001. And I only watched last year because Janet was doing a tribute to Michael. Honestly, the show is irrelevant. The music they feature is irrelevant. The performances are boring... except for Gaga - she did a decent performance last year. Everything else was lame. I haven't even kept up with music videos anymore... who the hell was even nominated?! And I don't really care much for this Chelsea host either. I liked it back in the day when Chris Rock was hosting.
As for Beyonce... girl needs to take a break. It would do good for her career to disappear for now... or longer.

Sadly she's putting out a new album next year don't hold your breath.
And she just released the 24th single off her Sasha album... which is surprisingly good for a change:P

Yeah it's like well she may have a lot of hits but she's only like 13 years into an actual hit-making career and about 7 years into a solo career, so she has a LONG while ago before that title gets bestowed upon her. It does more harm she's included into VH-Dumb's list but hey... lol but yeah she's trying to make people dig her lol I know a good portion do, but there's another good portion who hates her guts.

The problem is that her name is far more memorable than any of her music

I was just like you about the VMA's; it used to be appointment television. But it started going downhill in 2004. For some reason the producers kept focusing on the artists arriving on the red carpet and not the performances themselves or the videos they nominated for awards. It has gotten progressively worse every year, and what has really compounded the irrelevancy of the VMA's is the fact that MTV rarely if ever plays any music videos these days. So what if Lady Gaga wins zillions of VMA's? That's just a brief diversion from their non-stop episodes of Snooki, J-Wow, The Situation, and all of those teen moms whos should be getting life coaches and not being made famous on TV.
2004 was definitley the year the VMAs died. Even if you didnt like the first 4 VMA's of the decade you cant deny they were still interesting shows with memorable moments, maybe you just didnt like the music or stars from that time. I cant even distinguish between the 2004 - 2009 shows. The only memorable moments were Britney's crazy performance and the Kanye/Taylor Swift thing. I think the absolute number one thing they have to do is go back to the stage set up of old shows, its sounds like a trivial thing but it gives it that VMA feel to it rather than just any old award show.
One of my fav VMA performance. I love how she slowed down and built up the performance to "If" You can actually feel the whole performance. That's how a song should be performanced... not played the same exact way you hear it on the radio/music video. Otherwise, it gets boring.

^ Was that really Nicki? Couldn't even do a proper booty bump (lol) JK. It gave me a yawn.
Does anyone else find this Chelsea host annoying? She's not a creative comedian. Just raunchy. Not funny.

Usher's performance was pretty tight. Visually and choreographically. Very MJ-inspired, but still hot in it's own right.
Have to admit, I haven't seen any of these videos. Boycott Jersey Shore and bring back the music videos!

Dang the show has been on for over an hour and there's only 50 something responses on this thread? Comes to show that less and less people are interested in the VMA's anymore. There was a time when it was a must see, but for me..in the past decade, I've been less and less interesting.
