Samantha Sang - Emotion

She sounds just like Barry Gibb at the chorus

Loved this song in the 70s--and, yes, she was the female version of Barry Gibb. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

the Bee Gees basically took over this song. You really only hear Samantha during the verses. The brothers drown her out in the chorus.Sorta like the way Prince did on Sheila E's hit "A Love Bizarre".

Hence Samantha "sang" or else you wouldn't know

To give you an idea of how "hot" the Bee Gees were.....in April 1978,the brothers had four songs in the Top 10! Their own songs "Staying Alive","Night Fever" and "How Deep Is Your Love" plus Samantha Sang's "Emotion",which they wrote, produced and sing on.

Soul I have to admit I was a little dissappointed when I got the "S.N.F" soundtrack and this cut wasn't on it. It would have fit perfecly on the LP and in the movie.

a funny story about that....
My mother bought the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack when it was first released but she only played Side One She was hooked on the Bee Gees songs and basically ignored the rest of the record.A few months later, she hears "Emotion" on the radio, picks up the SNF soundtrack, plays Sides 2,3 and 4,frantically looking for that song...lol.....she thought it was a song on the album!

Yet it included 2 versions of More Than A Woman
Yes, I know Emotion wasn't in the movie in the first place

I compelety agree: A very happy place and time (well said). Makes me feel all warm & fuzzy just hearing it.

The Brothers Gibbs wrote songs that easily outpaced the competition. But were it released today, "Emotion" would garner zero airplay unless it included a guest rapper.

Am I the only one who prefers the Bee Gees' cover of this song? "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Thank God for The 70's! | |

"Thank God for the 70's!"
Amen to that! When music had meaning, bands played real instruments and Lionel Richie had soul. And the TV shows and movies were fun and provided escapism. Not like this remake crap you see and hear today.

No! I prefer their version too
but Samantha's version is very good as well "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ
"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always

I've never heard the Bee Gee's only version of the song. Is it on an official release? Do love the Samantha Sang version though--brings back some great memories... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I only listened to their version once or twice, and was thoroughly disappointed in it. It didn't take me to my happy place. It just made me . "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

It was recorded in '94 but wasn't released until the hits collection Their Greatest Hits: The Record.
You know, I hadn't listened to the original version in years. I had forgotten how much I love it. I usually get my Bee Gees fix by listening to that collection, so I guess I just got used to their cover. I was wrong, because the Bee Gees' cover isn't better. Here it is anyway:

I suppose it's just a beautiful song no matter who sings it, but Samantha's version BRINGS THE MAGIC!

...and the video would have needed to have included 4 backup dancers, lol.

I agree.I also don't like their own version of "If I Can't Have You".
