Had they said, 100 Greatest Artists in Rock And Roll of the Last 60 Years I'd have been able to deal with this list as simply dubious.

This person must be less than twenty years old, they are actually wondering why Led Zeppelin and Bob Dylan are on the list.

How about we start at this level.

VH1, which apparently operates in an alternate reality where classical, jazz, blues, and gospel, inter alia, don't exist, believe the likes Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane, Muddy Waters, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Mahalia Jackson, Charlie Parker, and (oh what the hey, while we're at it) Bach and Beethoven, aren't worthy of all-time consideration as musical artists, but these acts are.

47. Jay-Z

48. Rage Against the Machine

52. Beyonce

63. Notorious B.I.G.

66. Justin Timberlake

67. Coldplay

69. Tupac Shakur

80. Mary J. Blige

81. ABBA

86. N.W.A.

92. LL Cool J

93. Pearl Jam

94. Mariah Carey

95. OutKast

96. Journey

98. Depeche Mode

99. Hall & Oates

100. Alicia Keys

Now I own literally hundreds of songs from several of these artists, but even I know they don't belong on an all-time list.

Sorry, I had to say it.

All Im going to say is how can Sarah Vaughan not be on the list but Alicia Keyes is? Hold on... how can Anita Baker not be on the list and Alicia Keyes is?

Serious flaws with this list as usual, but its only 4 entertainment..

Yup. I bet you could have knocked Sarah and Ella over with a feather when they were told Alicia and Beyonce are greater than they.

It's just a dumb list, it's not really meant to be taken seriously, as most lists are. I mean it's one thing if it came from us, but from people who are supposed to be the "authority" on good taste, it looks bad on them then it does us. Not to mention the number of folks on that panel who voted for who should've been on that list considering who is on there at least at the bottom 50.

The list focused on artists that are out now as well so maybe that's why it's a fail to alot since there's not a lot of good artists out but depends on taste I guess. Everyone list will be different.

no list is perfect but as i said before....if this was a public vote....it would be FAR FAR worse...believe me.....this has been put together from music artists and people who work in the music ....its a rock and pop list mainly so i wouldnt to be bothered about jazz artists not being in it...thats a whole different argument....dont know how you would put classicial composers in this...yes there are artists missing and some that are way to high and low but you will never get total agreement on that so ...to me ....its just a good guide to what is considered the best .....its good to see prince , bowie and their like high on the list....where they belong....the beatles will always be number one for me and they will be on this list as well....anyway it sjust a list of what a collection of people think....just a bit of fun....

I understand all that you're saying, but as my first post indicates, the way the list is styled is pretentious. It didn't say "best rock and pop Artists of all time" it said "greatest artists of all time." and the fact that professionals composed this list makes the error worse as they should know better. They've pretty much got the top 10 right for their audience but if pros came up with this list it's saddening.

Call it what it is, is the only point.
