What The Future Sounded Like: Electronic Music Studios

"I was lucky enough to have a rich wife, so we sold her tiara for a computer."

Documentary about the the people of EMS (Electronic Music Studios) a radical group of avant-garde electronic musicians who utilized technology and experimentation to compose a futuristic electronic sound-scape for the New Britain.

Comprising of pioneering electronic musicians Peter Zinovieff and Tristram Cary (famed for his work on the Dr Who series) and genius engineer David Cockerell, EMSs studio was one of the most advanced computer-music facilities in the world. EMSs great legacy is the VCS3, Britains first synthesizer and rival of the American Moog. The VCS3 changed the sounds of some of the most popular artists of this period including Brian Eno, Hawkwind, Pink Floyd and Kraftwerk.

Great stuff!

The VCS3 was prominent in White Noise's Electric Storm(I think they were the first to use the instrument) and the sessions from BBC Radiophonic Workshop.

I love the toddler stages of any musical expression, they're mostly free from restrictions and shit imposed by what other people expect to hear.

An orger(Cinnie) sent this mixtape with a song from White Noise' "Electric Storm", and it absolutely blew my mind that the song was a creation from 1969,,,that album(coupled with Herbie & Stevie's albums) changed my view from "Technology ruined the sincerity of music" to "Technology is taken for granted nowadays".
