CDs at Starbucks

I only started drinking coffee (okay, machiattos) in the past year.

I found that one of my favorite reissue and compilation companies Rhino has collaborated with Starbucks marketing to bring unique compilations to the chain.

I am currently enjoying the Rockabilly one.

I find that the instant gratification of picking up a new CD goes quite well with my impulse to buy expensive coffee.

They also carry CDs that are not exclusive to the chain. Earlier in the year I saw the new Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings CD at the counter. And this morning I saw the new Katy Perry CD.

I heard it when a 52yo woman at work brought it in to listen to. Even though my tastes aren't the same as hers, she usually recommends or co-signs quality stuff. She's a huge Elvis fan so I wasn't surprised she was interested in a rockabilly compilation. She also was the one who asked me to make her a George Michael best of CD, and she hipped me to Ray, Goodman & Brown.

The tracklist:

1. Marie, Marie - Blasters
2. Ain't Got a Thing - Sonny Burgess
3. Believe What You Say - Ricky Nelson
4. Got a Lotta Rhythm In My Soul - Patsy Cline
5. Lucille - The Everly Brothers
6. Rip It Up - Little Richard
7. Rockabilly Music - Ray Campi
8. Be-Bop-A-Lula - Gene Vincent

9. Get Rhythm - Original - Johnny Cash
10. Gone Gone Gone - Carl Perkins
11. Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On (1957 Single Version) - Jerry Lee Lewis
12. I Gotta Know - Wanda Jackson
13. The Way I Walk - Jack Scott
14. Nervous Breakdown - Eddie Cochran
15. Come On, Let's Go (LP Version) - Ritchie Valens
16. Not Fade Away - The Crickets
17. Girls Talk - Dave Edmunds

What the fuck do they mean "punk" in the context of 50s/rockabilly?

"Listening to the 101 tracks on "Bones," it's easy to see why rockabilly continues to attract a lively cult following." -- Los Angeles Times

Elvis Presley's arrival in the mid-1950s left the pop music world all shook up. His explosive mixture of country music and rhythm & blues—later dubbed rockabilly—inspired imitators in virtually every state of the union. The legion of musicians who cranked up the beat, turned up the twang, set the echo to 11 and got real, real gone is saluted on Rhino's Rockin' Bones: '50s Punk & Rockabilly. the four-CD set documents some of most "action-packed" rock ever unleashed upon the listening public.

A celebration of sex, rebels, and rock 'n' roll, Rockin' Bones gathers 101 rockabilly rave-ups released by record labels both big and small from 1954 to 1969 by long gone daddies and wild, wild women. For the uninitiated, the collection serves as the perfect rockabilly primer, with quintessential cuts from such artists as Presley, Eddie Cochran, Jerry Lee Lewis, Wanda Jackson, Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins and Gene Vincent. The box also highlights many lesser-known favorites (35 tracks make their U.S. CD debut here) with the likes of Charlie Feathers, Ronnie Dawson, Hazil Adkins, Janis Martin, Joe Clay, and Johnny Carroll tearing it up.

Well i always said that if ANYONE could save the cd it would be something to do with Starbucks, they play what no one else plays but should play, they have the ability to market with no overhead, shit they can play your cd 24/7 if you work a deal with them, Mellencamps NEW cd is fucking amazing and what should be talked about and starbucks is the only thing playing it, the way that cd was recorded should be a whole story in Rolling Stone, oh wait there not a music magazine i forgot.
