I remember when I found out. It was Saturday night/Sunday morning and it came on the radio. I was SHOCKED but it was so out of the blue sad

i feel you. i found out as soon as the press knew..couldnt believe it because i had enjoyed her videos plenty...didnt get to know her overseas till like 1997. First track I ever heard by her was "are you that somebody" played it over and over.

I remember with Back and Forth first came out cool

My bro and I were at a Madonna concert that night in the front row. It was the highest of highs, and then we came home to this news- just awful. We went to her candlelight vigil in Detroit the next night. sad

As much as I don't support R. Kelly doing his nastiness with children, I really thought his work (in the studio!!!) with Aaliyah was the best.

I thought their voices really blended well... and I liked their style. That whole project was so cool, laid back, and hot at the same time. It totally worked.

I even liked the work Aaliyah did on R.Kelly's project as a featured back up singer on the remix, Bump and Grind.

All the remixes were really good.

I couldn't believe Aaliyah was as young as she was because her voice, the timber and even the way she carried herself... she acted and sounded much older than her age. But she still look young... her youth was easy to see in her face.

Agreed.

and I think you mean the 'Your Body's Callin' (His and Hers mix):

Aaliyah's part starts at 1:42

She was cool on the debut but it was the second album that got me hooked to Ms. Haughton.

That entire album was music to me at the time. biggrin

she was popular during her first album but I didn't know about her aside from hearing her name until the era ended and I liked back and forth. Then one in a million came out and the era was awesome so I bought her album after the second single, and played it almost everyday that time, especially the first half and the rest is history. My cousin was a huge fan of hers and I remember watching interviews with her and her doing the side parting like her.

I Agree R Kelly brought out her voice the best. I knew way back back when they both did an inteview on Video Soul on BET together that they were lovers. It was so obvious they were in love....

yeah, and back then, he was still in his 20's right? I thought he was 27. So for her to be 15/16 and he was like 27, it was still wrong... but not as icky as now when he is near 40 and the kids are still 15/16.

I didn't realize that he had a problem when he was with Aaliyah. I thought he was just a little silly/immature and a mature 15 year old was his speed. I didn't see the predatory actions that became apparent with the later girls back then with Aaliyah.

Nobody suspected anything back then or he would have been locked up. But he met her earlier when she was just a little girl. Her uncle was R. Kelly's manager. So who knows how long he had a thing for her. What i don't understand is how he still got away with it after her family found out. He could have been stopped in his tracks way back then. But I guess her family felt her career was more important. They just swept it under the rug like it never happen. I always thought that was very strange.

But there careers blew up after that. Especially R Kelly's. He became huge.......

Wrong! My friend told me that Jive was well aware of his relationship with Aaliyah and his predilection for young girls. This is not anything new or unusual, in the biz, and they all looked the other way. confused

I'm talking about the main public & authorities. I'm in "The industry". I know the people behind the scenes knew. But the public didn't know about his obsession for young females & ----s until the news broke of the marriage to her...

Well, you said "nobody" without clarification. R wasn't around that long or known at the time for the public to know or care. I still don't understand how ANYONE knew about what he was doing and chose to look the other way for so many years. disbelief

By the time we got to the "Aaliyah" album, she had perfected her own style. "More Than A Woman" is one of my faves from her. She knew her vocal range and finessed her own style that was as cool as it was sensuous. I was so proud of her growth as an artist with "Aaliyah". I thought she improved with each record she released. Talk about being taken in your prime.....sad

At least we can celebrate what she left us cool

Because the music industry all they care about is making there money. They knew R Kelly was very talented & wasn't going to mess that up. Just like when MJ was first accused of molesting the first boy. They hurried and payed that first child off. Before they released his album. They knew it would get in the way of them making mega bucks. Its sad they don't treat the problem. Because eventually whats in the dark will come to light...
