Nostalgia - TAPES!!
Sweet lord, do you still own tapes? Hell, I can still remember the late-80s and early-90s with all that walkman craziness and the cheap sounding tapes blasting through the speakers!! ah, good times. Funny how tapes have completely disappeared. People say that CD is gonna disappear too as a format, but I say it's bullshit. The CD will survive as the standard "physical" format, just as vinyl has survived as a relic. It's the tapes which have died, swallowed by the mp3 and the CD...
Some legendary "tapes" that I bought:
-Nevermind
-Illusion I & II
-Metallica
-Dangerous
-Aerosmith's Big Ones
-CrazySexyCool
After 1996 I just began to buy CDs...
Yours?

I have a George Michael cassingle and a tape of Martha Wash in concert...and nothing to play them on. All my other tapes were thrown out years ago. They do not age well. |

I own a very small handful. I have all my Matt Fink stuff/interview(s) on cassette (yeah Matt, I do - save the Org notes), as well as my Monte Moir interview.
I have a Kool & The Gang album, Emergency, on cassette. One of the few albums from the Fame TV series, The Family, Tony LeMans, Madhouse (I think) and some other misc Prince related stuff. I just never threw them away. |

PS This was my first Walkman. I am on the lookout to find one of them and buy it.

I have two boxes of tapes at my parents house in my old closet. I don't remember exactly what they are, but I do remember I had this on tape.

When MJ died my dad asked me if i had it on CD. I told him no, but that if he dug in the bottom of the closet in the box, he'd find that tape.
Im sure a good portion of those tapes in those boxes are songs I recorded off the radio. U know what I'm taking about "Slow Jams" "Party Music" "Rap" "R&B joints" stuff like that.

I'm still looking for the version of "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" where Michael speaks over the intro. It's since been removed after the first couple of pressings of the CD and cassette. |

remember when the tape would break and you would try to tie that shit together and then have to pull it out the deck and roll past the knot and listen to the rest
remmember how that shit would get all jammed up in the player and you would have to pull real carefully because you knew if it broke, your whole player would be fucked
and it would always be your favorite tape that would break during your favorite songs
good times, good times
I actually had a cassette player installed in my car when I got it new in 2003. |

Yeah, definitely the cassette player of the car was the bomb, I mean, the sound was perfect (for a tape) and the tapes seemed to last longer... |

ahh, you gotta love the days when people were actually listening to the radio and someone in the house would scream "Hey!!, new Prince/Janet/Madonna single on the radioooo" and then everybody would try to record it on a SONY tape or whatever...ahhh good times
Now we have the mp3 or iTunes, that's cool, quick and easy, but not half as funny as recording stuff from the radio... |

I've still got all of mine- some 300! Cassette singles were the first format I really got into, and I find them to be pretty awesome still. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you! |

Don't feel much nostalgia for them: they are fussier and don't last like vinyl and CD, plus the artwork was too small. I've still gotta plastic carrierbag full of them somewhere, mostly with recordings I made playing the guitar as a teenager. |

I remember getting so frustrated when I song I'd been waiting to record finally came on the radio and DJ So and So would talk over like the first part of it. UGH! I'd be like STOP TALKING, I'M TRYING TO RECORD.
I had sooo many tapes that looked just like this.

Yeah I just want the mp3. I've downloaded so many versions from torrents, etc, but never found that version.
I need to find an original earlier pressing. I only have the 2001 reissue w/ the bonus stuff on it. They changed a lot of it, and here are the differences:
- "Bad" has a modified horn arrangement.
- "The Way You Make Me Feel" has richer vocalizations and background vocals.
- "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" omits Michael Jackson's spoken intro. !!!!!
- "Dirty Diana" is replaced with the 7-inch edit of the song (which clocks at 4:41, the album clocks at 4:52)
- "Smooth Criminal" omits the dramatic breathing within the intro. !!!!!

I remember this Memorex blank casseette well. I used to buy em to make my mix tapes from CD's in the late 80's. |

My brother used to record songs on blank tapes too.
I remembered the reaction I got when I bought my first tape. I was all like

Me too, but I don't play them anymore, and it's become a space problem. I think 1983 was when I got my first one too. That was the end of life as I knew it. Now I could shut the world out. I'm really surprised that I can still hear after many years of blaring music in them. I would get mad when I taped a song from the radio and oftentimes the song would get cut off near the end. That's not the end of the song!!! I wish I had taped more midday mixes...miss those. My mom initially was really cheap and bought 99 cent tapes by some random nondescript brand that didn't even work or was just horrible quality. It was all about Maxell and Memorex tapes. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

Ooh, could you please send it to me as well. I adore his voice on that. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all." |
