Her flow is retarded and it is unique. She had a strong underground following due to her mixtapes which are some of the best by a female rapper. She was an underground artist. If you know anything about underground hip hop, you gotta bring it lyrically and have a flow. Which is what she did and continues to do.

But like most orgers they fear or are scraed of what they haven't actually listened to, have no intrest in rap, rappers or hip hop, yet have the strongest opinions on something they have no clue about, with the exception of a few posters here.

Is she a top tier female rapper, no but she has alot of upside and is one of few females that can spit

MEMO: Nicki Minaj is nothing more but a Lil'Kim rip-off!

You are completely full of shit.

On this first two pages of this subforum alone we have topics about Blondie, Bomb The Bass, Jamiroquai, Jeff Lorber, Charles Mingus, The Smashing Pumpkins, Teddy Pendergrass, Con Funk Shun, George Duke, Nina Simone, Bilal, El DeBarge. You wanna talk about not knowing about music, but I bet you've never listened to HALF of those artists I just listed. You probably don't even know who some of them are.

I've posted on a LOT of forums and have yet to find another forum with so many cats who are extremely knowledgeable about so many different forms of music.

I really hope for your sake that you are deliberately trolling, because if not, you're an idiot, musically illiterate, or both, and you need to pull out that stick you have in your ass that is making you so aggressive all the time.

All that said - I like Nicki. She does have a unique flow and good lyrics, but I have yet to hear a really great song from her. "Massive Attack" was average, and hence it flopped commercially despite her hype. "Your Love" is dull to me. However, I have faith that there will be some great tracks on "Pink Friday", although that is a terrible album name.

She obviously wants to be a pop artist but seems to be having difficulty making the transition. At least, that's how it seems to me.

Exactly..Im going to need an album for real results, fuck a mixtape and feature, gimme what you put all your hard work into then Ill decide.

You are partially correct with that statement:

1) Retarded, meaning incoherent and/or weak? Yes, absolutely.

2) Unique? No, absolutely not.

So in other words, she's a lame version of Lil Kim, as previously stated by others.

At least female rappers might have a chance at making a comeback, again. This is the first female MC in a long time to get any mainstream attention.

There are definitely better female rappers out there, but they don't much exposure because they don't go the sex appeal route.

I can't claim to have heard a ton of her stuff, but one such female MC I think is far superior is Bahamadia...

I'm a diehard hiphop fan

20 years old.

You can't tell me shit

Nicki is a female version of Weezy.

Her delivery is a lot more animated but her approach is exactly the same.

Contrived subject matter and corny punchlines. (not to mention a weak selection of cheap sounding beats)

Commercialized ready4radio hiphop is wack to me

Clearly you think otherwise because Lil Wayne is the best rapper of all time in your opinion.

Thats cool, but when you go around making outrageous claims like that you better get ready for backlash.

You would get clowned even harder on a hiphop website for saying stupid shit like that.

How can you expect anyone to take you seriously with all of the dumbass statements you have made on this forum?

Unless you are just trolling, as Militant stated/

Sadly I think you are 100% honest in every post, typical wayne stan

I don't think so.

Nicki is limiting the range of potential acceptance.

You have to be a sex symbol with an outlandish persona to make it as a female rapper.

I personally can't stand female rappers, even if they have dope skills like Jean Grae. I just don't like them.

I don't expect much of ya'll to know who this... gentlewoman is.

But for those who do - Her flow and style is really reminiscent of Prince's track "Silicon" with weird juxtapositions of blunt metaphors and stylized, off-kilter rhyming.

So cue up your "Silicon" track. Listen to it.

And then listen to..

http://www.youtube.com/wa...ature=av2e

The 2 songs are cousins and her rap flow is very similar to Prince's on "Silicon"...

LOVE Nicki Minaj smile Thanx for sharing.

Nicki raps like a cross between ODB and a broke down Lil' Kim. (imo Lil' Kim looks ten times better even with all her surgery) And as someone (a young, Black male) said on another hip hop site...she looks like Jamie Foxx after surgery. lol

You say this like Missy Elliott wasn't a global sensation.

It doesn't matter about sex/looks/whatever, as long as you have good songs. Nicki's debut album isn't even out yet and she's been working on it a long time so I'm just gonna wait and see what she comes up with.

You say this like Missy Elliot didn't have her fair share of sexually driven singles.

You can't avoid it as a female rapper. (or a female artist in general)

Edit: U are right about that. Missy had some decent songs, I can't say the same 4 Nicki.

Yes, she had sexual songs but sexuality itself was never a vital aspect of her image and therefore didn't translate to success for her.

People like her because she has interesting rhymes, futuristic beats and fun, bizarre videos. I often think Ludacris is her equal in terms of male rappers but even he has never reached the level of success she did.

I prefer the term "koolaid wigs."

Physically, she's a bit of a Lil Kim clone but musically...they don't sound similar IMO. Kim was more sexually hardcore if you will and her audience was a tad more "adult". Minaj is somewhat comical to me and her music is almost what you could call bubblegum rap. All that Barbie mess is for kidfolk - under 21 and such.

LOLLLLLLLL I like that too. (And even the wigs are different, but that's neither here nor there).

And RIGHT. While Kim's audience wasn't THAT adult (LOL @ that 12 year old crying about Kim on the Rolanda Show in 1997), it had to be adult somewhat cause she was trashy. She was getting dragged at the peak of her career for being trashy, too. lol

Nicki... I guess you could say comical, but really she's just fun. That's why she's catching on so much, cause she's fun. Unpredictable too. She reminds me more of Missy in that regard.

Part of what threw people off about "Massive Attack" - besides that über-syncopation - was that it was relatively serious in comparison to "I Gets Crazy" and "Itty Bitty Piggy" and any of her features. No lines like "YOU AIN'T GETTIN' WIFED IN THE CLUB, CAUSE YOU'RE FUGLY!" I think the failure of that single made her think a bit.

She said in an interview earlier that she feels that people see her as a character more than a musician, and that Pink Friday will change that. She also said that people will get to know Onika with album. So I guess everybody should just wait.

^ I'm willing to give her a chance because the rap game is sorely in need of some female flavor but lyrically she needs to "bring it" and I'm not talking all sex but she needs to be more poetic and grown up with her lyrics. I do see a lil Missy in her which is what makes her fun to watch. I'm more feeling her vidz than her music and I think I prefer her solo than when she's doing the collab thing with the male rappers - shit...that's what killed Kim other than her going to the pen and leaving the game wide open for some new chicks.

sigh damn I miss Rah Digga and Foxy.
