Might be the wrong forum.

However - her cover of IIWYG is probably the BEST cover I've ever heard of a Prince song, hands down. She needs to put it to record.

What I love about her IIWYG cover is how understated yet accomplished the performance and musicianship are. If only the bass was heavier in the mix. cool

Are you all referring to the BET performance?

I thought that all of them were a bit flat on the vocals,

except for the first one... what's her name who did Let's Go Crazy, and Patti Labelle who was in key and had a strong voice, even if you hate her fake echoes.

But If I was your Girlfriend was kind of struggling vocally. Weak in that live performance.

And Alicia Keys couldn't get into any high notes for emphasis and it made the song Adore a bit dead. I just watched it again a few days ago.

I wish this woman was my wife. She's beautiful, stunningly gorgeous, effervescent, sassy and naturally fine, but I digress. I hope she adds "If I Was Your Girlfriend" into her set. For, one thing she can introduce that song into her set, to win over more fans who aren't familar with her original music. Secondly, Prince digs anyone female artist who can play his musis, make it their own, without taking too much creative liberties. Her Chamber Society album, I was very impressed by. This girl, could be jazz's equivalent to Erykah Badu: challenging and fun at the same time.

Love Esperanza, and I am indeed a fan of her work, but that was not her best musical moment. She had pitch problems all throughout that performance, which was frustrating for me because she's usually such a beast.

Yeah, because there are so many people who sing and play upright at the same time sooo much better than her, and... rolleyes

And who gives a shit about a Prince tribute? She does much more complex music on her own and executes it perfectly.

As a musician, I was highly impressed with her playing on the BET awards, although it was just a pop song opposed to a jazz song. Her voice is great, too. She has a beautiful aura about her. It was a great juxtaposition from the craziness that was Janelle Monae in the song before that. They were the two highlights.

Well she is a jazz artist...who's an instructor at the Berkelee School of Music, which is our premiere academic institution for jazz in the country...so you could say jazz is definitely her thing lol
