Great Story, I wonder what has happened with Tyrone now.

I wondered the same thing and Googled him several months ago. Currently, he's a Staff Sergeant with the US ARMY. Perfect for him I'd suppose: "Don't Ask Don't Tell".

it included "midnight special", "have mercy" and my favorite "i don't know how to say.."

i always loved the system.. since i was little..

i run this channel on youtube http://www.youtube.com/extended91

got a lot of system extended versions and dub mixes..

david frank the keyboarder came round my channel and got in contact with me..

pretty awesome talking to him..

mic is pretty cool too but kinda strange sometimes..

by the way, the system are back together workin on a new album..

and mic murphy recorded 'electro soul satisfaction" a year ago..

a nice electro/funk/system-sound-like track featuring grandmaster melle mel..

Great band... and that's pretty cool that you talked to David Frank. Great to hear they are working on new material. I really hope it's closer to Murphy's "Electro Soul Satisfaction" than like their E.S.P. album. That album really disappointed me. It's completely devoid of what made them special (Frank's great electro keyboard work in particular). And it was WAY too slow. I am no Aguilera fan (by no means), but Frank's work on Genie in a Bottle definitely had more of a modern "System" sound than E.S.P. did. Until then, we have their great work from '83-'89.

Out of interest I noticed the song replaced Sign o the Times at #1 R and B in May 1987, but only lasted one week, and it turned out to a black guy singing and a Jewish guy doing the synths (David Frank). They didn't seem to have any other real hits beside this one.

They had at least one other song that I loved...

I love this song!!!

But as much as I love 80s music/culture, I sincerely hope the Jheri Curl never comes back in style and the above youtube clip is Exhibit-A as to why. Though there are some parts of the South were the drippy curl never really went away. biggrin

SoulAlive

Does anyone know why the System doesn't have a greatest hits set? confuse I like several of their songs but I'm not sure that I want to look for the albums.I just want a nice compilation that includes all the hits.

I loved this song but i was disappointed in the album.

Is it one of those albums where only the hit single is good?

when asked about ESP, david said it became too soulful because they were recording and writing in california.. so both were pretty chilled out and that's why.. mic said this time they gonna work in new york to get the edgier sound back.. i hope they get something nice done..

and by the way, there is an album release called "unreleased/unleashed" which they put up on cd baby and itunes for download.. it contains some unreleased material from the ESP sessions (better tracks than the album.. the track "grip" is DOPE!.. then they also have the not so well known b-side "sonic fire" from 1984 and there is a "new" track from the x-periment sessions of 1984 on that release, called "she said yes".. i got sonic fire and she said yes both on youtube if anyone wanna check them out.. ;]

Truely an 80s track that has stood the test of time . I can listen to this today and feel the same way when i heard it in 1987 . One of my favorite tunes of that decade.

Maybe i'm misinterpreting here, but what does their heritage have to do with their succes ?

I love interracial music and I stated it as a fact that us Jewish people have always treated African Americans as equal human beings unlike certain other groups of religions. Ie Islam and Christianity

Aha, okay cool
