That's another good point - how much of this is Matthew's influence and how influenced IS Beyonce by her father? Is she afraid to go against him? She recorded B'Day in secret, and turned her phone off so he couldn't find her - that's really not a healthy relationship. The B'Day era had a noticeably low budget, maybe Matthew wouldn't give her more funding because he wasn't in total control? Is Beyonce in control of her finances or does her dad "handle" them?

I've heard rumours lately that she won't talk to him any more, hopefully it's true!

lol I thought that she got even with her dad when she married Jay-Z. I'd heard from more than one source that Daddy Knowles didn't like Jay-Z because he thought he was too much of a thug to be with his daughter. Beyonce showed him with that secret wedding whose boss of her personal life; now her business affairs are more than likely still being largely controlled by her father because, let's face the facts, the man has had a big hand in making his little girl a household name. I will never believe that Beyonce could have made it this far without her father pulling lots of strings for her behind the scenes because there are lots of women who sing just as good as (oftentimes better than) her but don't have multi-million dollar record deals because they don't have cutthroat managers backing their careers. Either way, Beyonce could decline taking any credit for these songs but she chooses to take some credit for them so she's just as guilty of being dishonest as her father is in the end. Personally, if she's allowed to take credit for weak and forgettable songs than more power to the girl.

I thought I was the only one who was thinking that Mathew was controlling Beyonce. I always thought Mathew put credits for her daughter so he could take a cut of the money she would get for being listed as a co-writer. I do think Beyonce's scared of her old man and if it's true she ain't talking to him then I wouldn't be surprised. Mathew strike me as some kind of monster. To put it lightly, I'd rather deal with Joe Jackson than him.

I vaguely remember a songwriter (Ne-yo?) who had worked with saying in an interview that he wasn't consulted about adding her name to the credits and he even called up Mathew to ask why. He said he was told something to the effect of "the audience's only interest is the artist". However it went down it didn't sound like the writer had a choice in the matter...

It's no accident when she says at a concert "I wrote this song about...", she could just as easily say "this song was written about..."\"this song is about..." and emphasize how she SINGS it is her contribution but she doesn't. There is no excuse for this behaviour, she is de-frauding her fans. There was a time in music when it was generally accepted that being a great singer and being a great songwriter weren't one and the same.

That wasn't Ne-Yo. That was Rob Fusari, Lady Gaga's ex boyfriend and the REAL WRITER behind Destiny's Child's song "Bootylicious". Beyonce isn't a great songwriter at all. She changes a word and gets writers credit.

I'm still waiting on a hit song written solely by her.

"Y'all I wrote Irreplaceable. I DID!!!!!"

In a way I understand why they do it. People dont respect singers who don't have a hand in writing. Britney absolutely proves that point. Shes probably the least respected mega pop star out of all of them simply because she doesnt pretend. Alot of people on here keep saying "back in the day when singers were singers and writers were writers" but then go on to say certain entertainers are talentless because they dont write their music. Singers these days really cant win either way.

clapping Thanks for understanding my point. Britney has never pretended to be anything and never acted like her music is groundbreaking or whatever, mostly she just describes it as "cool" and "fun". lol

But she is actually talented.

Rob Fusari's issue was that he wanted to play Stevie Nicks' guitar riff on Bootylicious so he would get credit and half the profits, but Matthew and Beyonce said 'No.' and decided that Stevie should play it and be credited. Rob was the liar in this case.

I don't think that's always true. For instance Aaliyah was hugely respected singing Timbaland/Missy Elliott/Static Major songs and she never lied about it. Also Brandy with her collaborations with Rodney Jerkins.

I could see more in rap/hip hop, being disrespected for not writing your own lyrics, but not necessarily with all singers. I think it depends on how good the singer is and how good the songs are.

Beyonce is a fraud but she can perform her ass off and she's a decent singer. She balances out along with her beauty. Britney still sucks. lol lol

yeah people should be more "outraged" on how bad todays writers are as opposed that Beyonce takes credits on things she may or may not have workedd on. but then again the public buys these "gems" in abundance so is writing what they are interested in

She has never pretended to write whole songs. She always says that she co-writes with others or gets songs sent to her and she changes aspects of it. Songwriting isn't just writing the lyrics. It's about the melody and the instruments as well. For example, Ne-Yo's version of Irreplaceable is completely different to Beyonce's because she added drums and the vocal arrangement is different.

Let's not get it twisted, people do different "arrangements" of an already written song all the time. It is called covering a song.
Arranging an already written song into instrument/vocal parts is different to writing the lyrics/chord progression/lead melody. Without those 3 components, you have nothing.

I am not sure if I agree with that. Let's take MJ's song, "2,000 Watts" for example. That song was written by Tyreese for his album of the same name, it just had not gone to press yet. When Michael heard it, he changed the vocal arrangement of the song. To me, that is not covering a song, that is adding to it and making it our own. When Beyonce, recieved "Irreplaceble", from Neyo, she also changed the vocal arrangement, Does that mean that neither she nor MJ, should have gotten credit, for their contribution?
